    Not severe enough actually.
But if she does take the plea, like I bet she will.
Living with the sex pred label will be a burden.
You cant live within either 500ft or a 1000ft of schools, you cant own guns, you cant get a security clearence, many colleges wont take you, jobs will be hard to come by that are worth a darn.
Many churches wont take you if they have a day care or a child care during services.
Your life will suck. I would commit suicide.

A 15 year old is definitely a child. They are too young to give consent. BUT, there are laws on the books with leeway because there is a difference between an 18 year old preying on a 15 year old, and two friends "experimenting". The discretion is in the hands of the prosecuter (pre-trial) and ultimately a jury.

I see nothing in this case to suggest that it has not been handled properly, and the parent of the 18 year old is failing her child by trying to make the 15 year old's parents (and the prosecutor) seem like the bad guys, and failing by focusing on orientation at all. My guess is she is trying to gain support from the GL community just because she is lesbian. As if they would be on her side no matter what. Some here on the board are proving her right. Sad. She should focus on the friendship and prove that the 15 year old was a willing participant to get some leniency.

    Forlorn hope.

The triumph of hope over experience.

She looks like a lip stick lesbian...very pretty. A very attractive defendant. That's why justice must be blind. Like the Red Queen said, off with her head.

I can't say I agree with the punishment levels either... but that's not what this case is about. The law is currently on the books.... ignorance of the law is no excuse.... and the parents of the 18 y.o. are simply grabbing at straws in hopes of saving their baby girl and using the gay issue as their defense.

Political correctness says, if someone doesn't agree with you when gay is in the equation, you can simply call them a homophobe and try to justify your position that way.

The gay community will then fall in behind this 18 y.o. girl because "it's about bigots and homophobia" when that's not true, it's about an 18 y.o. diddling a 14 y.o.

and as was stated prior... I have taught 19 y.o. seniors.... I was a 13 y.o. freshman. "because they go to school together" is not an excuse. I also taught a school of pre-k - 12. that's 3 y.o. through 21 (was the oldest ever to graduate that school)

the "they went to the same school" does not apply.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that the relationship didn't start when the girl was 18, she was younger then that and the parents of the other girl waited until she was 18 to press charges. Which means they knew about the relationship before she turned 18 and did nothing about it. Didn't talk to the parents, didn't talk to the school.

I didn't forget.... it doesn't matter.... parents of the victim are under no obligation to report it to either prior to reporting it to police. They may have reported it prior to 18th bday and told "sorry, nothing we can do legally until 18"

I wasn't talking about obligations. Technically, they aren't in the wrong. But I doubt that with all of this attention, I'll bet they are rethinking this decision. No matter how right they are, they are losing the PR war, especially by not saying anything.

Anyway, I'm glad there is a 'Romeo and Juliette' law, and hopefully this girl doesn't get stigmatized for the rest of her life for a high school romance.

Anyone who thinks she is some sort of 'Predator', really needs to look that word up in the dictionary because I do not think it means what you think it means.

And I think Alligator Alley in FL should have no speed limit. But guess what, it does.

that's amazing that an agenda can justify a gay pedophile as "winning" the PR war?

I guess it's ok to victimize a 14 y.o. BUT ONLY IF YOU'RE GAY, huh?

Jesus, way to put words in my mouth. I justified nothing. I merely pointed out the reality of the situation.

As it stands, the idea that a 17-18 year old girl of that size could victimize anyone is laughable at best

The term pedophile has no place in this discussion. You should know better.

call it whatever you want.... noway that a gay predator should ever "win" the PR battle over a victim of a crime. Only in gay agenda world is that even entertained as a possibility.

I'm thinking, after the dust settles on the criminal trial, the parents of the victim are going to sue the mother of the perpetrator for defamation of character, and will probably win.

victimization has NOTHING to do with size. Mental victimization.... an older person taking advantage of a younger kid.... you can have your smaller boss victimize you because of power.

Don't be naive to thing that the 14 y.o. couldn't be victimized because the 18 y.o. was petite.....

    What pedophile?

Again this trivialization of the word 'pedophile'.

The pedophile who targets and victimizes pre-pubescent children is far, far different from the predator who victimizes physically mature teenagers.

Calling this 18 year old a pedophile distracts attention from real pedophiles who are not team members on the same basketball team.

Under current law, this 18 year has broken the law- and should be treated just like any other 18 year old- male or female- straight or gay. The prosecutor has lots of descretion and appears to be using it- the family should take the deal.

I would not react the same way if an 18 year old had preyed on a pre-pubescent 8 year old- and I hope no one else will.

The alcohol was NOT addressed. The simple fact is, that an 18 y/o cannot legally drink in this country and is treated differently than a 21+ y/o. You simply cannot handle this. You ask for fact on how we treat am 18 y/o as quasi-adult, and I did.

And no, not every 18 y/o goes to college. I NEVER SAID THEY DID. I gave examples of what is more than likely expected from an 18 y/o vs a 21+ y/o.

Talk about not reading posts you don't like.

    Maybe.

Unfortunately with all of this drama- who knows how this has affected the 15 year old's family.

Her parents may succeed in prosecuting her daughter's illegal girlfriend but may lose their daughter from doing so.

    Really a mess all around.

call it what you want... she still committed a sex crime against a minor. Trying to spin or dismiss this because she is gay is gay agenda 101.

14 y.o. daughter having sex.... parental fail
14 y.o. daughter having gay sex..... double parental fail.

I'd argue they lost their daughter a LONG time ago.

remove the gayness from the topic and let it be heterosexuals.

I put my foot down when my Freshman daughter was the interest of a Senior. There is just way too much emotional development difference.

Yes, she was mad at me and it was "the end of the world" and she would "never speak to me again"

    here's a thought

we are their parents, not their friends.

Fast forward and she now laughs about the things which were all so important to her when she was 14 and 15.

She even asks how we put up with her.

I have a big problem with both sets of parents if they both knew and neither did anything about it.

    who knows

I heard you can become gay by standing too close to another guy at the urinals

What? Now you are calling her mother gay?

    Get serious.

Her mom is doing what she can to keep her kid out of jail- and she isn't gay.

Like I said- a big mess.

Simply preventing your 14 or 15 year old from seeing an inappropriately- and illegally older GF or BF is something that may be laughed at later.

Having the person prosecuted and thrown in jail would likely create a much deeper schism.

But like I said- this is a big mess- I believe the parents of the younger girl told both of the girls to stop seeing each other- and neither would. And I think the parents had the right to tell both of them that. Both of them ignored the parents and the parents filed charges- maybe it is what they considered the last resort.

Like I said- I think that the older girl should take the deal.

What a bizarre way to look at it.

Why do you think of it as a 'double parental fail'?

First of all- I don't approve of 14 year old's having sex- especially not with legal adults- so don't even try to accuse me of that.

BUT- from a purely logical point of view- from a parents point of view actually- and from a statistics point of view- the 14 year old was far, far safer with an 18 year old woman than an 18 year old man.

    - can't get pregnant
    - far less likely to be raped
    - far less likely to be physically abused
    - far less likely to get a STD

AGAIN- I don't approve of either sexual relationship- but you say its twice as bad because it involved lesbian sex- and that reveals a totally small minded moralistic judgement, not based upon the facts.

Sorry, cant pick and choose your crime vs punishment.
    15 is a no go for a 18yo.
