If that's your position then you have no room to complain when liberals make baseless statements like "George is a murderer." Because your opinion is just as unmerited. George was acquitted because of a dearth of evidence showing he was guilty -- not an abundance of evidence showing he was innocent. Nobody knows what happened that night.

 

Heck, people swear certain things happened thousands of years ago. They know who said what word for word. Yet for some strange reason they are incapable of knowing what happened just a few months ago. Isn't that remarkable?

I don't think you understand the difference between "not guilty" and "innocent."

Just in case there's some confusion. The presumption of innocence is in the US – I assume – as it is in other English common law-derived systems, applied in the courts. The defendant is presumed innocent and unless found guilty is still innocent. There is no implied view that an aquittal somehow equates to “not being found guilty”.

As luck would have it last night I watched the first episode of what looks to be an excellent mini-series (I hope my cable provider runs all the episodes) of John Adams. This was “Join or Die”. If you've seen it you may remember Adams' representation of the British soldiers in their trial for murder. Adams' message should be remembered. Despite the urgings in the public gallery and in the streets for a finding of guilt and thereby execution, Adams stated that the evidence, the facts, should drive the finding, not some ancillary issues.

This was a political show trial that demonstrates how politicized the administration of justice has become in all too many cases.

 

I think the episode called "Unnecessary War" is the best, don't want to spoil it, though. All these issues have remained constant over the years, it's like there are just some lessons that the people will never learn, mistakes that will always be repeated. In this context, this issue about whether or not the people should riot because of whatever verdict some lame court in Florida churns out, it's that emotional imprint that counts, logic takes a backseat. America, a great nation, indeed a vast global empire beyond the wildest expectations of the founding fathers, even likely to their chagrin, and it still comes down to "the last straw", the one that broke the camel's back, as it were. It's written that way in the Declaration of Independence, that after a long series of abuses, the people are liable to snap and go postal, like that is just a force of nature to reckon with. In all of the American civilization, it's the black population which is kept on that edge most often, antagonized in ways that boggles the mind. You get your buttons pushed again and again, but if you react with anger, you're deemed a monster, even though that anger is the natural reaction, it's still considered to be primative or animalistic, uncivilized. And, the saddest part, it's always instigated by the people who claim to be the best friend of the blacks. Can't really blame people for wanting policies such as segregation, for how often people get used and abused by their so-called fellow citizens, and for what, all to maintain some stereotype. It turns out we have very limited freedom of expression in the United States, By the time we get the opportunity to be ourselves, the powers that be have determined that were are only allowed to be vessels for some stereotype, carriers of political labels, and if we do not play along with them we are outcast or marginalized, disenfranchised. Hell, they will even mock you for believing that demonic possession exists, all the while doing it to you with little tricks of words like "conservative" or "liberal", and what have you got then? Where can you go to escape? I mean, it's ten times worse in Canada than it is here. Nope, the only thing to do is stand and fight, win some and lose some, hoping for the best.

I wouldn't know about polite people, but in order to talk about it, there had to be some sort of outrage from a higher power. And I'm very sure somewhere a Republican publicly supported Zimmerman, or perhaps insulted Martin.
