No matter what side you want to argue you have to admit this pope is awesome.

I haven't heard a single thing about the guy that doesn't scream THIS IS WHAT CHRISTIANITY SHOULD BE LIKE.

Good for him, good for the religion, good for the people who follow it.

Hate the sin Love the Sinner, has ALWAYS been the position of the Catholic Church.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Jesuits, as a rule, rock.

They disown all posessions, or sell them, to feed the poor, as a matter of daily living. To serve the needy, is the entire purpose of the Society of Jesus.

They are decidedly NON-POLITICAL, especially in Church matters, which is why it is so STUNNING to Catholics and other people knowledgable of the subject, that we now actually have a Jesuit Pope, which was believed to be impossible, and has NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE.

    "cool with the gays" ?!
    wtf were you watching ?
    Holy twist!
    no pun intended.

That's not at all what he said.

"Religious homophobes" as you call them... otherwise known as "Christians who simply disagree with homosexuality"...
Don't see the pope as having any relevance. I mean, he was only relevant to the Catholics in the first place.... and many of them realize how disconnected the popes tend to be. They keep changing what is OK today, vs. yesterday.... yet the Bible strictly says not to.
I'll leave it there... this isn't a religion thread, it's another of the thousands of pro-gay threads.

Another one where you can unleash your anger, hatred and bigotry.

Yeah... pretending the Pope is closer to God is a bit disjointed.
    Not to mention foolish.
But altogether stupid when used as an argument.

No pope has ever said that.

    It's not even Biblical.

Yeah, I especially like the part where a billionaire pope advised his followers to "not be materialistic".

That bolded part is F'd up.

It's not Biblical, and it's dangerous.

Hard to tell, in translated English.... but, if he means simply doing good will get you "saved".... I do take back the comment about no pope saying it.

And reinforce the ridiculousness and danger of saying it.

The Pope's saying that he's not hinky with gays takes the foul wind out of the homophobes' sails.

Usually, the Bishop of Rome is centuries in arrears, but the tsunami of moral progress has (Mirabile dictu!) inundated land-and-mind-locked St Peter's. (The Vatican used to have its own navy, doncha know? Surf's up, Dude!)

Even ultra-obeisant US Catholics can now feel good about advocating equality under law like most of their compatriots.

Gallup has been asking the question of Americans for some time, and the current majority ("Liberals" the dyspeptic bellywhingers snivel) will only increase.

    Eh decent act.

We'll see how this goes further down the line if there are actual attitude changes.

Thing is, if you make a list of all the types of people you don`t approve of (bigoted against), you should quickly see why 99.9999% of your problems are of your own making. You can`t reasonably expect everyone to like you, while you reserve the right to criticise so many people yourself.

I can understand what you mean (incidentally, if I'm honest, I have very few problems in life), but I simply do not feel the need to be tolerant of the untolerant. You can of course argue that this makes me untolerant, however it is not me preventing others from their equal rights as human beings. If I was tolerant of the people who want to refuse these equal rights, then we'd hardly get anywhere.

    Lets look at the facts:

A bunch of people want to prevent others from getting married, they are untolerant of their lifestyle and this lifestyle has no impact whatsoever upon anyone else.

Why would I be tolerant of these people? The people I do not tolerate are impacting other people's lives with their beliefs, meanwhile, my lack of tolerance of bigots, is firmly towards a group, inteferring in others business.

I'm not sure if this makes sense, but ultimately there are differences.

Can you tolerate an opinion, not in line with your own? Can you accept that people have a right to their opinion that marriage is a heterosexual institution? Life is diverse, I accept that. The fact that I wouldn`t be allowed to compete in the para olympics, dosen`t stem from prejudice, or bigotry. It`s simply that I wouldn`t pass the physical. Furthermore, I wouldn`t entertain the thought of trying to force myself on the para olympians. I`m satisfied that everybody can`t be everything. Dosen`t make me any less equal to a para olympian, only different.

Excuse me such Hate Speak of an Hetro-phobic character .

You are factually incorrect as Homosexual Priests and their RAPE of Boys has been well known and documented .

If any institution is made for Homosexual men it is the Catholic Clergy. unmarried ?????

Oh and if any Institution was tailored made for Homosexual Women ,[some call lesbian ] it is the Nuns ,vicious Male hating kiddy bashers ,as most from the dark days of the Catholic school system can attest some of them Nuns were NASTY male kid haters.

so it is plainly wrong to describe the Ctholic Church as Hetro-sexual as many of the Clergy by the choice in Raping Male Children are HOMOSEXUAL by that orientation ,NOT GAY ,HOMOSEXUAL!

    Attracted to Male children ?!

We hope for your self correction of the Hate speak Slander against the Hetro-sexual Community!

Oh that's right you don't like scientific definitions when it comes to Homosexuality = same sex attraction.

    As all Gay thinkers do.

    P.s

Homophobia is not a word in relation to Homosexuals ,as that would be derogatory and REAL HATE SPEAK against my friends who are born Naturally Homosexual .

    You calling them "HOMO's ???????????????

Fear of " HOMO"s calling a Homosexual a HOMO = calling a Person who has black skin a "N" . Careful its not to late to turn back to Modernist objectively based science thinking the highest form of human thinking.
