Time for the U.S. to Colonize the Moon and Mars.

I believe that any program as comprehensive as building and colonizing the Moon and Mars would have UNLIMITED BENEFITS for Earth based businesses, manufacturing and be a huge benefit to the Global Economy.

What is more is that such Colonization could EASILY PAY FOR ITSELF WITH A SIZABLE PROFIT TO BOOT!

Underneath the Regula of the Lunar Surface exists vast deposits of Exotic Element Rich Meteorites and Asteroids. Such elements as Iridium, Lanthanum and Cerium.

As well Titanium, Gold and other Elements as well as specialized Molecular Carbon specific materials are found in Meteorites and cannot be found on Earth.

Such material and Elements collected from Lunar Meteorites and Asteroids just under the Lunar Surface are worth MULTIPLE TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

Well, I like a good mineral hoard as much as the next person, but private industry is still years away from setting up the infrastructure to mine all of this stuff. Private industry is still in the early, preliminary stages of their individual space programs. The most impressive show so far, that I remember, was that plane that made orbital(sub-orbital?) flight. They're planning to take tourists on it, eventually, into near earth orbit for a brief, high up sight-seeing tour.

 

The United States Military Covert R&D Advanced Propulsion Programs have a Nuclear Plasma Pulse Detonation Drive. This information of it's existence has been released and is well know to exist.

There is a PRIVATE CORP. that has developed this for the U.S. Military as well as NASA.

You use this type of Propulsion and you cut travel time to Mars down to maximum 21 day's....the Moon....HOURS.

The pulse engine isn't going to be a comfortable travel device, from the sound of it. And forget about sending eggs... But, putting that aside...

Private Industry will still need to acquire the rights to use this engine and also that's just the propulsion itself. It doesn't take into account any of the other structures they have to engineer or run through simulations for years.

Time and money.. it all comes down to time and money. This isn't a backyard bottle rocket, that's why common people couldn't develop this stuff tomorrow even if we wanted to.

We have a blue print that's never been tested, as far as I know. So, it really is a start from scratch project. And, the nuclear detonation will produce continuous EMP pulses that will destroy any off the shelf parts that would be available for civilian use.

Okay, this was very much a secret program of the USA, but one that was possibly "mothballed" after the story was released. And, searching through Wikipedia on various spacecraft propulsion systems it seemed like there were a lot of promising propulsion systems that were shelved due to funding cuts at NASA.

So, it's settled, at least the Government of the USA and NASA have some good designs that can be used. But who's going to use them? Some of them are decades old, too -- they might need to be updated.

Just what was your intensions about who was going to colonize the Moon and Mars? Was it private industry, the government, who? I wonder because both you and Kurmugeon started similar topics, I don't want to confuse the two, and I just want to know where you stand on the subject of who's going.

Which nations? Only the US attempted any surface exploration and the cost was a mere pocket change. It certainly does not look like they are trying hard.

 

India launched a mission about 2 days ago and China is not far behind and they both have manned missions scheduled before the U.S. I don't know if I'd call several billion dollars
