I'm not a computer tech so this might come off as an extremely stupid question but is their a way for them to alter those emails now? I normally prefer to wait for evidence to come out on any situation that may or may not be a scandal but I'm having a hard time accepting this one. I'm just wondering if now they can alter the emails in anyway.

This is the best thing ever. I was trying my hardest not to compare Obama with the only other modern President that may have been worse than Obama, Richard M. Nixon. Now that Obama has removed the last barrier to that comparison, I am truly grateful that I now have a license to make any comparison between Nixon and Obama I care to make.

If anyone still believes Obama is good or competent, could you please answer this question; if there wasn't a smidgeon of corruption in the IRS targeting scandal, why was it necessary to cover it up? The cover-up pretty much proves to me that there is high level corruption in regards to the IRS scandal.

This is now the fifth scandal in about a week and a half, isn't it? Warren G. Harding must be feeling a bit of relief.

amen, pop servers have many backups, for years and years worth of emails, and not all on one tape or something like that losing them all would be impossible

Oh, but then the Liar-in-Chief can simply say, "**** you! I don't have to comply with anything because of Executive Privilege!" Of course, that is exactly what Nixon tried to pull when the Democrats were tearing his ass off his backbone, trying to get his "privileged" information.

I didn't think that I'd ever see another President of the United States who would turn out to be as corrupt and deceitful as Richard Nixon in my lifetime, but, here he is -- Barack Insane Obama! Too bad for Nixon that he wasn't half-Black, or maybe he wouldn't have had the "news" media demanding his resignation night and day like they SHOULD be demanding of this total piece of stinking **** we have in the White House today!

This is the dirtiest and most unethical Presidency since Andrew Jackson. The only way they are not worse is that they did not murder 1/3 of the Indians on lies.

Its amazing that this administration actually believes the American public is actually stupid enough to believe we would swallow a crashed server lie. Especially since the drives are mirrored in multiple locations and for it to crash would mean multiple drives in multiple locations all crashed at the same time (impossible) but lets say they did, its a half hours work to get them back, if they smashed it with a hammer its still a half hour as there are multiple drives of the same exact data.

The IRS is part of the Executive Branch. If they intended to turn them over, they could have done it from either side.

Honestly, WE MUST be jumping the gun. Because there is no possible way those are actually lost. They have to turn them all over. My guess is that they scrubbed them already on the White House receive side and couldn't on the IRS send side so they are claiming they are all lost. I would want the IRS metadata, not the White House version.

that could be true, they may keep backup tapes off site... that is much different then saying they can't provide them because of a computer crash

The problem with that notion is that no court or Congress can serve a subpoena on "the Executive Branch". In this one particular case, it's Ms. Lerner's personal computer:

"WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service says it has lost a trove of emails to and from a central figure in the agency's tea party controversy.

The IRS told congressional investigators Friday it cannot locate many of Lois Lerner's emails prior to 2011 because her computer crashed that year. Lerner headed the IRS division that processed applications for tax-exempt status." (emphasis mine)

    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/irs-lost-lois-lerners-emails-in-tea-party-probe/

It sure helps to use a credible source, doesn't it?

That's a mighty extreme accusation. I sure hope that you have proof to back up that claim, because otherwise it's you who is the criminal.

Precisely who makes off-site tape backups of personal computers? That's typically reserved for mainframes and application servers!

Perhaps the "non-techie person" never asked and never told because a "non-techie person" isn't likely to even know to ask such things. Why aren't the inquisitors going straight to the IT people?

As you know PCI compliance would have demanded it and the MUCH stricter DIAACP government compliance for personal data would have been even worse.

I want the IT Director of that Exchange Server on trail and explain how those emails were not backed up because we damn well know they were.

“Now who’s, I say who’s responsible for this unwarranted attack on my person!”
Yeah I do know why they lied and so does everyone reading this including you. The only difference is some of us aren't ashamed to say it out loud.

Its obvious you are not in IT. Government REQUIRES emails to be backed up and not overwritten. They have tape backups going back decades. Its mandated by DIACAP compliance. Look it up.

    - - - Updated - - -

If that were true (which its not) they would be in violation of federal DIACAP law when it comes to data retention.

    Read about it here:

No, actually this whole thing is the Treasury Departments fault with the IRS back in 1959; http://www.nbcnews.com/id/51984570/...irs-law-disaster-waiting-happen/#.U5uj0vldV8E

The emails in the scheme of things mean absolutely nothing and they never have. It's like showing up to the World Cup with a bunch of golf balls. The law as it was written and as it should have been exercised, is the only ball that can be used in this game. It is the only one that has importance. You folks try and live out this fantasy with Lerner and her emails to mean something, but the sad truth is, this fantasy is worth squat. You folks need to get a life.

Ladies and Gentlemen, most of you are a long time, experienced political junkies, and you can smell conspiracy when you see one. This is definitely a conspiracy, and it must be immediately investigated by our Justice department. I demand that Eric Holder personally take charge of investigation, as soon as he find a spare time.

The part that gets me is that...

A week ago we were told "oh sure, we'll have all the emails for you", like they just happened to forget that the emails were erased. Thats what makes it all suspicious.
