With only 36% of all eligible voters voting in 2014 I would not be crowing too much about Conservative wins. I know the Cons here do not like what was posted in the OP, funny since the data came from a Con, but that does not change the fact that much of the Electoral College votes will automatically go to a Dem candidate for President, it simple is what it is, the same can be said for some Red states. What it will come down to is who runs for each Party, if Hillary runs she will be hard pressed to get support from many Liberals and Moderates that simply do not like her, but if the GOP makes a fatal error and feels they actually have more of a mandate than they have and run someone considered to be an extremist then Hillary will win no matter how much people may dislike her, she will still be preferable to an extremist such as a Tea Party type candidate

Another curious perspective. "Stereotypes" including statements based upon statistical data, which show that the vast chunk of all people, young and old, have moved to the left, and continue to move to the left, over the past thirty years. It is this trend that heralded the invention of the Tea Party movement, after all.

Why is it so hard for you to interact with people who disagree with you, without insulting them, calling them ignorant or stupid, etc.? Is this how you behave in real life?

What facts? This is some goof's blog talking about how the Republicans didn't do what they should have in the 2 years that haven't even started yet.

I realize these are "facts" enough to most liberals..... but creating threads about how the Republicans won't win again, before they have even taken control, is a bit transparent.

    Not to mention insecure.

But certainly worthy of a few "likes".

Yeah sure, so much so that he is regularly featured in Huffington Post and Progressive Liberal websites. You may want to redefine your definition of "hardcore dyed-in-the-wool Republican".

There are no statistics showing "the vast chunk of all people" moving to the left. People in certain groups have moved to the right on some issues, left on others. We've seen polarization during the last 30 years where the middle has picked a side, with each group moving more towards their respective poles.

I consider socialists to be my enemy so I would not treat them like a fellow human in a conversation. I see no reason to afford them any kind of respect, given what they believe.

This tracks views from the 1990s to present day. I can also provide other statistics demonstrating the same trend, if you wish.

Ah, so you are an authoritarian personality type. Gotcha.

Why do you think I'm conservative? Because I support SSM? Because I am pro-choice?

No, everyone against Obama is a conservative to you guys. Get out of your bubble, man.

Your original argument was "the last 30 years", so that goes back to the mid 80's, not the 90's (although it includes the 90's). Also, the data ends in 2007, which leaves out the last 7+ years, which is odd considering how you are the one complaining about how things that were valid (x) years ago may not be valid now.

Your data doesn't support your argument as strongly as you seem to believe. "Government should take care of those who can't take care of themselves" went from 71% in 1987 to 69% in 2007, a net decrease. During the 90's it shows a marked shift towards the right on this issue. Over the 7 year period from 1987 to 1994, a 14% decrease in support for Government programs was seen. This is the same time span between when this set of data ends and the present day, indicating how quickly perception on this issue could change. Belief in God stayed about the same, from 1987 to 2007, from 60% to 61%. Prayer went up, from 41% to 45%.

None of this shows an overall shift to the left during the last 30 years, which you claimed. If anything, there was a shift to the right during the 90s (which is ironic, considering how fond the left is of those years) and now things are going back to where they were during the 80's (ironic, considering how much the left hates those years).

I'll concede that society has moved to the left on certain issues, such as homosexuality and drug legalization. As far as massive socialist programs that redistribute wealth, your data doesn't show a marked increase.

Meanwhile, people have moved to the right on other issues, like gun control:

No, I just don't like socialists. See the Bolshevik Revolution for reasons why.

No, you admitted to being a right leaning moderate and that makes you more of a Con than Lib, just as me being a left leaning moderate makes me more of a Lib than a Con. see how simple that is? Nice generalized and false statement, strike 1, try again.

Haha that's the most ridiculous bunch of crap, and a strawman comment. You meant to say I am closer to a REPUBLICAN, not a con, genius. I'm much more closer to a liberal than a conservative.

Hahahahaha I'm almost 100% socially liberal genius. I'd like for you to cite how I'm like a conservative. Please, enlighten us some more with your brilliant dialogue.

Statistical facts and data that are totally ignored when right wingers refuse to base their conclusion on them.. I already posted a link as to how the country has overwhelmingly voted in favor of what are considered Progressive/Liberal values and issues. Which ones are you negating exactly? Here, I'll make it easy for you and provide the list...

Minimum Wages. Voters in four red states—Arkansas, Alaska, Nebraska and South Dakota—approved measures on Tuesday to raise the minimum wage against the concerted and well-funded opposition of national and local big business groups.

Paid sick leave. Even while voters in Massachusetts elected a Republican governor, about 60 percent of them also passed a ballot measure guaranteeing paid sick days to about million workers. In Montclair and Trenton, New Jersey, voters passed ballot initiatives allowing workers who provide food service, child care or home health care, or who work for companies with 10 or more employees, to earn up to 40 hours of paid sick leave each year.

Abortion. Voters in Colorado and North Dakota defeated proposals granting personhood to fetuses at the moment of conception. In North Dakota, 64.3 percent of voters said “no” on Measure 1. Planned Parenthood and its allies played key roles in beating back this assault on women’s rights.

Public safety. More than two-thirds of California voters approved the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act, which will revise some of the lowest-level petty crimes from felonies to misdemeanors and targets the financial savings into crime prevention and school programs.

Gun reform. In Washington state, voters beat back the National Rifle Association and approved a ballot measure to impose criminal background checks on people who purchase firearms online or at gun shows.

Soda tax. Despite an expensive campaign wage by the soft drink industry, Berkeley, California, became the first city in the country to adopt a tax on soda and sugary drinks to combat diabetes and other illness. About three-quarters of voter supported the measure.

Workers rights. Arizona voters defeated Proposition 487, put on the ballot by business and Republican interest groups to undermine public employee pensions
Pot. In Oregon, voters legalized recreational use of marijuana, joining Washington state and Colorado, who adopted similar measures in 2012. In Washington, D.C,, voters passed a measure to let residents grow cannabis indoors and possess as much as two ounces.

Fracking Foes. In Denton, Texas—a college down of 123,000 people—59 percent of voters approved a measure to ban hydraulic fracturing, the controversial drilling method. Denton is the first city in Texas, where the oil and gas industry have enormous influence, to officially oppose the controversial drilling method. The ordinance drastically restrict drillers’ attempts to tap the rich natural gas reserves within the city limits.

you do understand the difference between off year elections and presidential ones, don't you? No one has ever suggested that the blue wall works for congressional elections... only presidential ones.

let's just see if you sing the same tune on election night 2016.

I mean...WE don't have to do anything about it. Heck, I'm retired, live in Mexico and vote absentee in Maine. Maine is gonna go for the democrat... my vote will help.... besides that, and my regular contributions to various PACS, I shoot the breeze about politics when I'm not swimming or playing golf. I think the analysis in the OP is pretty sound. And the trends in demographics also tend to point to problems for the GOP, but, if you think that's silly, then you do, I guess. You'll vote for whomever the GOP primary machine spits out at the end, and I'll vote for Hillary and we'll each keep our fingers crossed and hope that our candidate prevails.

I agree. One learns much more amongst nature, studying nature, not denying the lessons learned by nature than can ever be learned in a classroom studying a book by some author who has never left a classroom.

And Hillary can do just like Bill did and work with the REPUBLICAN controlled congress.

Being president and being in the minority party is meaningless.............

I should have clarified..The writer of the article was quoting "hardcore dyed-in-the-wool Republican" Chris Ladd, who writes the “GOPlifer” column at the Houston Chronicle...
