    Fact or fiction ?

Not women, not blacks or other races, not who progressives wish were responsible.

Can't it be argued that most of the science and technology we know and have is the result of men from Europe and in the modern era, also men from Japan, China, and India ?

Is it racist and sexist to state historically justifiable claims ?

There is no possible way to track this statistic so you can't answer your question. There were some mathematical geniuses in the Persian area that invented certain equations so does that mean that every invention after that, based on their equation, is actually due to them?

The cotton gin, originally invented by a black man, led to many other inventions directly off his work, in fact some automation techniques as well as assembly line work are directly attributed to the Cotton gin so do blacks get credit for all of that?

I will concede Persians belong on that list.

Every race belongs on that list.

Lewis Latimer, a black man who invented that little thing in the light bulb called a carbon filament, he worked side by side with Bell and Edison and basically had as much, if not more direct contributions to electrifying the world.

Africa was fully colonized and practically every black human was oppressed by the time of the Age of Enlightenment.

It's not racist until the inevitable pseudoscience claims about intelligence and race come in.

Unless you can provide some verifiable statistics to back your claim, we just have to assume that it's full of (*)(*)(*)(*).

They went from the stone age directly into slavery then into colonial oppression. They skipped the Age of Enlightenment when radical innovations were an everyday occurrence.

Claiming that men are entirely responsible for technology is like feminists claiming that men are entirely responsible for war. Nothing in history happens in a vacuum where the genders are concerned.

Why do you say that? It may just be that you know history solely through a Western perspective.

well, since women and the other races were EXCLUDED from education, getting patents, etc, it's sort of hard for them to have been part of this segment of history, dude. I'm a white guy, and we ARE superior, in many ways, but hey, facts are facts.

Arabs never ruled North America, South America, Europe, East Asia.

hence "the world", as you speak of it, must be very small.

The Arabs were in control of the Middle East, which connects East to West, thus being a pivotal trading point and production for culture and science.

Islamic Spain alone was a shining example of the cultural and scientific superiority of Islamic rule. Spain at the time was the most populous nation on Earth. The Carboda Library contained more books than all the libraries in Europe put together.

We invented coffee, soap, and modern surgery. Most of the stars in the sky have Arabic names.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/how-islamic-inventors-changed-the-world-469452.html

This is not to mention the political an philosophical writings that many scholars contributed, some of which have been borrowed by Enlightenment thinkers.

Unlike the West, the Arabs didn't conquer and take over their nations by force, merely to subdue and destroy them. Let's hope Europe learned from WWII. I doubt it.

Nope. It would only be racist if you tried to attribute anything to a race, based on that meaningless observation. You would also be safe to point out that most of the technology in the last 30 years is also the result of folks who don't like anchovies, have excess earwax, and wear the color red.

I assume that you are excluding all the discoveries in ancient times like pumps, irrigation, mathematics, medicine, engineering etc which appeared first in the Middle East at the dawn of civilization.

Every time period has its own distribution of "ethnic technological advancement" for lack of a better term. Currently its Europeans and then Asians but it wasn't always so. It used to be Asians and Middle Easterners and in the early days it was South Americans and Middle Easterners.

the statement is wrong not for political reasons, it is wrong because it is inaccurate, much of our technology advancements come from western asia/the middle east

it is true however that most of out scientific advancements originated in the northern hemisphere, but this is largely due to the fact that 88% of the world's population lives in the northern hemisphere.

Consider this, the alphabet was invented by the Phoenicians, and our numeral system was invented by the Indians. Without these we wouldn't have been able to make a great number of our scientific advancements
