Why? Cause without a background check, if you sell your gun to someone you don't know, you may be selling your gun to someone wanted for murder, rape, child molestation. You may be selling your gun to someone who just broke out of prison. Do YOU want to take that chance? I sure as hell don't. .....now, in exchange for Universal Background checks, I suggest the Democrats allow nation-wide CCW reciprocity to be passed in the Senate. I think its a fair exchange. The Left gets universal checks on sales, and the Right gets to carry their handguns concealed in all 50 states. Seems like a fair deal to me.
If you have ever seen any of the universal background check legislation, I am not so sure you would like them. For instance, the most visible one that did not pass State legislation would have made your wife a felon if you left the house for more than 7 days and she had access to the guns. You would have had to transfer all of them to her (anywhere from $15 to much much more depending on the State) before you left home, or you would have to get a safe and not give her the combination.
we are going to GET reciprocity on our own, so why give up ANYTHING to our enemies, hmm? We now have "shall issue" ccw permits in 30 odd states, with 4 states allowing anyone to ccw (if not a prohibited person). Who would have thought that would be the case, when Fla passed the first shall issue law, in 1988. Against some of the most serious opposition that the left can muster, too. I've bought dozens of guns from people that I didn't know, showing no ID, and sold just as many in the same way. We don't need any more Big Brother intrustion into our lives. In fact, we need to get rid of all of it.
Ron, why don't you understand that 50 State reciprocity would REQUIRE a National registry of all of those CCW holders? No way, no how.
you have a problem with every state having a list of all CCW holders? lol!!!!!! how else are they gonna know if your permit is legit?
I have a problem with any State that doesn't recognize Constitutional Carry. Requiring any "permit" at all is an infringement. When you get a CCW, you certainly ARE entered into a database, and subject to firearms seizure at the whim of the Gov. Why do I have to explain this to you?
do you know what the permit means? it means you have gone through a thorough background check. that's all.
If you make a law against it, it will not stop it. Someone will still sell their gun. It's just a matter of price. Personally, I believe a gun owner should be allowed to sell his gun to whoever he chooses.
that's right, EVEN A CRIMINAL, like those who cross our borders ILLEGALLY, that you just can't WAIT to turn loose on our medical and educational system.
Poor Ron. If you think that's all it means, you are deluded. Here in NV, it means that you've been checked, and had formal instruction. It also means that you are in a registry of gun owners that is kept by the State. Seriously now. I know you are more aware than that.....
You believe the government should have more control, and punish people to enforce that control, in the attempt to keep items away from people who might misuse them. If there is a robber or terrorist, you have a much bigger problem on your hands than worrying about whether dangerous items are readily available. That robber is going to commit crime and that terrorist going to commit acts of terror whether or not you have made it more difficult for them to get the tools. I hope you realize that society operated fine when guns were easily available. Everyone did not die.
YES, even a criminal should be able to obtain a gun. If they have not caught him yet. That is what I truly believe. First, I am not sure that it is a good thing for the government to have the capability to prevent anyone they want from obtaining a gun. That is a tremendous amount of power. Second, just because someone is a criminal, I do not necessarily believe that negates his right to be able to defend himself, certainly not in all cases. Third, it is just too much control and not really absolutely necessary. I think they should focus on the individual who committed the actions, and not the tools that could potentially be used to help commit the crime. Having a gun is not inherently evil, whereas committing a moral wrong is. I do not believe guns should be controlled for the same reason I do not believe cars or kitchen knives should be controlled.
When you treat everyone in society like a potential criminal or terrorist, you have really turned the whole society into a prison, in a sense. Individual liberty needs to respected.
No it isn't. Law abiding citizens take some precautions whereas criminals don't follow the law by definition so universal background checks will do nothing to stop criminals from getting their guns, which they get mostly from theft or a family member.
That was never a very real problem anyway. Most criminals never bought their guns from stores either.
of course not. Crooks buy guns from burglars who stole them. There's nothing that Big Bro can do about that.
Saying that we need gun control to "prevent them from falling into the hands of criminals" is just a way to establish control over everyone else. The premise of these gun control advocates is apparently that there are individuals out there who cannot control themselves, and if given access to a gun will use it to commit crime, yet these said individuals should be free to roam society.
