People try to argue against O'Reilly's talking points but they rarely make any sense. His talking points are well thought out and based on facts provided by his professional research team. That's something lacking in the liberal media. But all it takes to argue against O'Reilly is constipation of the brain and diarrhea of the mouth and there are no shortage of those types in the print or electronic media. Maybe we even got a couple on this Forum.

I absolutley agree with most of the points he makes. What I doubt we would agree with though, are the underlying reason's for these statistics. Just one simple example of this is the differing penalties for drug crimes. The reason so many black men are in prison are for drug crimes. Crack ( the prevalent drug in black communities ) are penalized FAR greater than cocaine ( prevalent in white communities ) . Oriely makes the case for the sellers being in prison. I agree. But what about the users? Do they belong there? Drug addiction is an illness. These people are sick. I dont think throwing them in prison is going to help them much. But yet, thats what we do. We have guys in prison for 30 years just for having a joint on them. Thats ridiculous. And the majority of black men in prison for drugs are NOT there for selling, but for simple using and possesion.

The problems that face the black community are extremely complex. There is on single magic bullet to fix things. We have marginalized and abused this community for generations upon generations. They have reached a tipping point where they simply do not have a respect for the authoirity of law because that authority has for the most part let them down. When a community feels that it has no real recourse within the legal system, that is when things turn violent.

This is obviously only the tip of the iceberg, but just a few things that I think are important to acknowledge.

Depends on how loud he is screaming at his guests face when they are responding.

Yes. Absolutley. Just a fast google search brings up more than one example. I may have the years wrong. ( 13 comes up more often than most ) cause I pulled that number out of my arse, but regardless, you have people facing stupid prison time for extrmeley minor offenses.

I dont know. Lets just blame it on Obama, since everything else that goes wrong in the world seems to be his fault as well.

    Sound good?

That's what the Left keep saying, but did you see the rap sheet on this kid that just got killed in the police van? He had a rap sheet a mile long with drug arrest and he is just a young kid. He should have never been out of jail with that record. Plus it's a known fact that Blacks commit over 50% of all major crimes while making up only 13% of the population. I believe much of this crime is because of poverty and lack of guidance by missing fathers. To many Black males are having kids all over town and not supporting them. Kids get their education on the street.

I blame much of it on all these Black leaders that want to make it everything but what it is. Your never going to make things better for many Blacks and Whites until you restore the family unit. I challenge anyone to disagree with that with any proof.

I dont disagree with that. Where I am sure we disagree is on what has actually destroyed the family unit. Especially in black america.

Poverty. Joblessness. Essentially the black family was always a weak institution, because it had been engineered that way since they arrived. The waning of social controls in modern times aided this weakness further..

Do you think hell actually do a history piece such as the Killing series on the black people of america?

    Like 'Killing the Black Family'?

Hed have to research that one.

The prevalence of people in prison for drug possession is low in terms of state prisons. 3.7% of people in state prisons were in for drug possession. (another 12.2% for drug trafficking, etc.). Also, people forget history--it was black legislators that pushed for the enhanced sentencing of crack cocaine--why? because crack was destroying their community, and the lesser sentences that used to be applied to drugs weren't working.

This my friend is the million dollar question. I dont think there is any one smoking gun you can point and and say "This! This right here! this is it!" I believe that it is a very complex and complicated issue. But, I will summarize a few things. Please bear in mind that these are only summaries, and they in and of themselves could be topics of entire threads themselves.

To name a few things I think have created this situation.

    Insitutionalized racism.
    Narcotics
    Biased laws
    lack of oppertunity.

These are just a few of the things ( and again, please note that these topics are just a few that could be brought up, and each of these topics themselves could take up pages of discussion )

I agree with most everything you say except: Please list/link a person in prison - who's been there for 30 years for having a joint?

Which is why the United States, with 5% of the world's population, has 20% of its prison population, the highest incarceration rate in the world.

So with all the statistics did he offer any solutions? Or just enough information to make people mad, fed up, and demand that the government (republican government) do something about it? And no I don't expect democrats or progressives to be honest about solutions they offer either.

The two party scam & the plutocracy mostly. When you keep a large % of the population dependent, and non competitive, for decades and the traits become generational, you get what we have today. Not making excuses, just looking at the statistics.

so he blames the issue on people having kids when they should not, yet I bet he is against planned parenting and easy access to birth control

    .

    - - - Updated - - -

once that is on your record it sticks with you... that is a problem..... and it's a gateway to crime for many

it's legal now in Colorado and we can see how stupid the laws have been, it's time to end prohibition once and for all

if you have the money, it's easy to get, but you do need to get permission from a doctor first in many cases as most BC is not OTC

but are leaders need to start letting the public know birth control is ok... stop pushing abstinence, or like Palin, your gonna get pregnant

to quote Palin, "Abstinence is not realistic"

This is just part of the article. Please open it up and read it all.

"Father-absent families—black and white alike—generally occupy the bottom rung of our society’s economic ladder. Unwed mothers, regardless of their race, are four times more likely to live in poverty than the average American. Female-headed black families earn only 36 percent as much as two-parent black families, and female-headed white families earn just 46 percent as much as two-parent white families. Not only do unmarried mothers tend to earn relatively little, but their households are obviously limited to a single breadwinner—thus further widening the income gap between one-parent and two-parent families. Fully 85 percent of all black children in poverty live in single-parent, mother-child homes.

While the overall black poverty rate remains about two-and-a-half times higher than the white poverty rate (24 percent vs. 10 percent), the “face” of black poverty has changed dramatically in recent decades. At one time, almost all black families were poor, regardless of whether one or both parents were present. Today, however, two-parent black families are rarely poor. Among black families where both the husband and wife work full-time, the current poverty rate is a mere 2 percent. Moreover, the relatively small (13 percent) income disparity between black and white two-parent families completely disappears when we take into account such factors as occupational choices, educational attainment, age, geographic location, and comparative skills.

Children in single-parent households are raised not only with economic, but also social and psychological, disadvantages. For instance, they are four times as likely as children from intact families to be abused or neglected; much likelier to have trouble academically; twice as prone to drop out of school; three times more likely to have behavioral problems; much more apt to experience emotional disorders; far likelier to have a weak sense right and wrong; significantly less able to delay gratification and to control their violent or sexual impulses; two-and-a-half times likelier to be sexually active as teens; approximately twice as likely to conceive children out-of-wedlock when they are teens or young adults; and three times likelier to be on welfare when they reach adulthood.

In addition, growing up without a father is a far better forecaster of a boy’s future criminality than either race or poverty. Regardless of race, 70 percent of all young people in state reform institutions were raised in fatherless homes, as were 60 percent of rapists, 72 percent of adolescent murderers, and 70 percent of long-term prison inmates. As Heritage Foundation scholar Robert Rector has noted, “Illegitimacy is a major factor in America's crime problem. Lack of married parents, rather than race or poverty, is the principal factor in the crime rate.”

Most Republicans are for birth control. What they are against is late term abortion, except to save the life of the child. The Democratic Party wants no restriction on abortion, right up to birth.
