Well as far as between humans government can have no restrictions now, it is a fundimental individual right now and cannot be denied. We will have to see where that leads us now.

 

This is absolutely wonderful. What a great day for America! This is the country I love, the one that isn't trying to stifle folks with archaic religious ideals in areas of life that have nothing to do with religion.

But as the dissents point out, rights are not what the government bestows, they are what we already have without government. This ruling has inverted the very role of government in relation to rights. The Court has set up "rights" as something that the government assigns to people, not something they possess apart from government.

 

Removing bars to marriage based on a couple's gender isn't 'legislating' - it's not adding anything... It's removing unconstitutional legislation. If it were legislation YOU were against I doubt you'd have a problem. Thus showing the hypocrisy of the Right.

 

And America died just alittle more today.

If this was a court decision, doesn't that mean gay marriage should've been all along? In most countries gay marriage became legal by political decision. What's difference in the US?

Naw. The constitution was upheld.

I understand that not everyone likes that. But the constitution protects everyone. That's the victory today.

 

Folks here think it should be up to voters whether or not people have rights or not. They feel that if the voters feel it's okay to be arbitrarily discriminatory and exclusionary with laws meant to uphold subjective archaic values, that should be the way it is.

They were told today that it doesn't quite work that way in a country that values freedom, liberty, and equality.

 

Benefits only GAY couples. The single mother and grandmother down the street, raising their children/gradchildren for over a decade, are of the "same sex" and yet excluded by law from marrying in all 50 states, because of the potential of procreation and genetic defects.

Yeah, just spoke to my wife told her "Sorry, hun....years of happy marriage are now over.....the Supreme Court said gays could marry...so our marriage is finished.".....she laughed and said "Darn...and I just bought new lingerie for our anniversary."

 

I'm all for setting up a system for people in that situation too.

That's the biggest victory today.

That the constitution was upheld as being for every citizen. Not able to be cast aside because the majority didn't like a minority of its citizenship.

 

Same sex couples and their children was, is and always will be an oxymoron. No matter what in-your-face courts decide.

You and me both man. My wife texted me the bad news today. I've already started burning the wedding photos and I pawned my wedding ring for 30 bucks an hour ago. She's telling everyone at work that she'll be using her maiden name again now that our marriage has no meaning.
