If you don't accept slavery, like Jesus did, then you are arguably better than Jesus in that way.
Question: in what ways do you feel that you are better than Jesus (if any)?

Look, if you don't advocate, say, giving to charity, then in that particular way you are arguably not better than Jesus - in fact arguably worse in that way. In a number of ways you might not be better than Jesus - at all. But I bet you can think of a number of ways that you are better than even someone as great as Jesus? Let's hear your ideas.

Me, one other way is that I care for people enough that I would not have condemned those 3 villages to after-life torture like Jesus did, if they simply didn't believe that I was the son of god - so maybe I'm more compassionate and tolerant than Jesus allegedly was.

    But what about you?

What are you talking about? What 3 villages? And Jesus and God give man the choice, if you want the lake of fire you can have it. The choice is ours.

One could say that most people re "better" than jesus because they are alive and he isn't.

Yes, because the "soul", that magic entity that people who believe in an afterlife need to magically get the clearly dead body up (or down) to heaven/hell, can't be shown to exist the way that they claim, scientifically, it's pretty obvious that Jesus did not "survive his death" - he's DEAD, and not answering people's prayers, and can't give them "eternal life" or other such unscientific nonsense. Science is so amazing, so why do people even need faith?

Great. Do you abhor slavery, and say that it's wrong? Then you are better than Jesus in that way as well. You're also real, and Jesus is not, so yet again you're better than (the divine) Jesus.

The Bible primarily details the account of how God has chosen to deal with the tragic results of a sin-fallen world down through the ages. While recognizing the reality of slavery as it existed in various forms, the Bible never actually condones it. It rather gives slaves, both then and more recently, a spiritual basis for worth, dignity, equality, and hope to face difficult circumstances. In the end, at a deeper level, its position is clear.

Remember that the bible is not a manifesto on everything people should do with every single issue that exists.

I believe many people need faith because they cannot reconcile their reality with their mortality. They take comfort in believing there is a power that "guides" them thru the challenges of their lives, that establishes the boundaries of their behaviors and provides them with a "meaning" to their lives. Of course they don't really think to much about the "meaning" which from their deity's perspective appears to be qualifying either for advanced worship and submission or eternal damnation. Faith also provides one of the strongest tribal bonds.

While religion can be condemned for its excesses, it should also be praised for the philosophical and psychological benefits its bestows on its adherents.

You are far superior to the talking living dead guy who hates so much, is so evil, is so vile, that that sicko will gladly see innocent people who have never heard of him (through no fault of their own) get tortured for eternity. Hitler was never that vile! A real piece of work, this zombie.

That's because you're not so morally depraved that if people don't think like you you want them to suffer more than any human (while on earth itself, before death) has ever suffered before. Jesus' after-life Auschwitz makes even Saddam's torture chambers seem like a walk in the park. Sick. Disgusting.

    - - - Updated - - -

The magician from Nazareth condemned them to eternal torture, the sick SOB. Innocent children lived there too, I assume.

    - - - Updated - - -

Unlike the Pope's #1 role model, you will speak up for the rights of innocent people (gays)....but the Pope and his hero won't say to alter the vile texts that say to kill those innocent people, so you are more moral than the Pope, clearly. You are awesome.

    - - - Updated - - -

Neither did Hitler, so even Hitler is more moral than this "Jesus" bloke.

    - - - Updated - - -

It takes people away from reality, permanently....that should be condemned. Instead of seeking real solutions to the world's problems, they just say "well, that's god's will", and don't try to solve the problem, because "god" is in command.

So can we agree that if anywhere it says that, say, oh, it's OKAY to beat a slave brutally unless he dies w/in 48 hours that the Bible is savage and barbaric? Can we?

Incredible, you can't say you "abhor slavery", and can't say it's wrong. It seems (no offense) that religion sort of sucks the morality right out of people, and their innate morality is then replaced by the abject FEAR that they need to believe in a magic talking dead guy or they won't "survive their own deaths". You are better than that, my friend.

I sometimes disagree with some of your points, but with this (and other) insightful posts, I have to say that I see you as one of the most intellectual posters on this entire forum.

So you're better than Frodo, Thor, Zeus, Nessie, Bigfoot, Jesus, Paul Bunyan, etc.

You couldn't say you abhor slavery, if I read the post correctly where I said:
"Great. Do you abhor slavery, and say that it's wrong?"
    And you wrote: "Not really."

I we can't even say that SLAVERY is wrong, then I argue that we don't have the moral backbone to say ANYTHING is wrong!

Modern Secular Humanism has a moral backbone. Slavery. Is. Wrong.
Believe that slavery is wrong, and you're better than Jesus, on that important moral point.

    - - - Updated - - -

Yes, Thor will punish me, but because he's far more moral than the immoral "Jesus", I will just get be given a few serious "wedgies", and not eternal torture. Thor is much more tolerant than Jesus.

You, and even Donald Trump, don't have such a gigantic EGO that you'd do that. Jesus' ego was perhaps the biggest in world history. I can't think of another character in ALL of fiction with an ego that big!

    Me - I can operate a computer.

    Jesus - Can't operate a computer.

I'm better than him at that.
