Is this first "Trump" flip/flop the first of many more to come?

Trump Backtracks: I Won’t Break Torture Laws

Donald Trump said Friday that he would not use torture if elected president—a complete reversal from statements made just the night before, during Thursday’s GOP debate, in favor of committing war crimes.

In a statement to The Wall Street Journal, Trump now says he would not order the U.S. military to break international laws, despite previously proclaiming he would authorize the military to kill family members of terrorists and that he would use torture techniques a “hell of a lot worse” than waterboarding.

Trump now would “use every legal power that I have to stop these terrorist enemies,” but he understands“the United States is bound by laws and treaties and I will not order our military or other officials to violate those laws and will seek their advice on such matters.”

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2016/03/04/trump-flips-i-won-t-break-torture-laws.html

Did he "not" understand this before? Do you think he said it because of this?

Former CIA Head Explains Why Armed Forces Can't Legally Obey Trump
"If he were to order that once in government, the American armed forces would refuse to act."

Michael Hayden, the former head of the NSA and CIA, thinks some of presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign promises are so unlawful that the U.S. Armed Forces could not follow them as orders.

These include Trump's claim that people deserve to be waterboarded even if it doesn't work and that he would target the families of terrorists. The internationally recognized Geneva Conventions bars such action.

"If he were to order that once in government, the American armed forces would refuse to act," Hayden said Friday during an appearance on "Real Time with Bill Maher." "You are required not to follow an unlawful order that would be in violation of all the international laws of armed conflict."

Hayden added that he would be "incredibly concerned" if Trump followed through with his campaign promises as president.

If any of you answered "yes" to my question above - then how many more "flips" do you all think this NON-POLITICIAN that knows nothing about politics, or what it takes to survive in Washington, or anything about international laws, or our militaries laws, or the Geneva Conventions statures - will commit?

You see................THIS is what I've been talking about for weeks now if not months.

Donald doesn't have the first f*cking clue about anything I mentioned, and for all of his hyped of bravado that you folks have been swallowing "deep & well" for months now, you're all going to see many, many more of these reversals from him as we go along.

You're going to see all the hot air come out many other ridiculous claims & promises that he pulled out of his @$$, and all of you that support him (including Donald) are about to get the education of a life time.

You're all getting ready to learn "why" things are the way they are in Washington, "why" the established game that was set up decades ago isn't going anywhere, and "why" blowhards like Donald will always fall flat on their faces.

Stock up on your pop-corn because it's about to get a whole lot more interesting as both Mr. Trump, and his supporters get taken to school.

The CIA is right. Your armed forces cannot legally obey trump. That being said International Law has been so ignored including by the Americans. Trump goes that extra mile that is so obvious most do not want to be associated with it. Your problems will really start if your military starts to support Trump. The US would I think completely ignore International Law if it felt it was in it's interest and no one but them is going to bring them to face it but I think Trump wants to go where most people really do not want to tread. You'd have civil war I think.

 Nice to see that he is at least trainable. Someone coached him, I expect.

    - - - Updated - - -

It would divide the military in that case, as it would (further) divide the nation.

And they say 0bama has been a divisive president...

One of our tv stations was talking about Trump the other day and said that he was under no obligation to tell the truth at this stage but they were not sure the US people were aware of that. ;)

well if you take that to the possibility of civil war, is that not what the military most like to avoid?

I thought Trumps entire campaign was a flip-flop from his political history. Though I suppose this is a more recent, and dramatic example. He just plays to win. He doesn't have any real principles - but he might have miscalculated here.

Oh, Jesus H. Christ. Dead is (*)(*)(*)(*)ing dead no matter how someone wants to frame it.

Just how many innocents have been killed in our stupid wars in Yugoslavia, Iraq (twice), Libya and now backing the 'moderate' :) rebels in Syria? Where was these guys moral objection THEN?? Let's don't even get into the drone strikes in Pakistan and Yemen and the ratio of bad guys to innocents killed there.

Hey, OP, why don't you worry about that sick, twisted (*)(*)(*)(*)(*), Hagatha Canklepoon, whom you support? She is, after all, the one who famously went on TV after Gadaffi was killed by being sodomized with a knife and declared, "We came, we saw, he died HAHAHAHAHAHA!".

I heard a few days ago that we've got another 3 months of this crap. [IMG] Most of it would pass us by if only the BBC wasn't so bloody obsessed with it.** Oh death where is thy sting! [IMG]

** Much like the sodding Oscars etc. But I guess it's just part of their dumbing down orders from central government.

His supporters don't care about flip flops. They just want to send Trump to Washington to cause trouble in the evil capital.

You're on to something. The only true evil in America eminates from Washington. The beast needs to be cut in half immediately. Then we'll see what else needs to be cut.

Power should reside with the people, not the government.

Actually it is refreshing to hear a Republican actually admit that waterboarding is torture. I believe I remember Bush/ Chaney claiming that waterboarding wasn't torture.

trump's supporters are too stupid to hold him accountable for anything. Most of them can't even remember what he said yesterday. They hear his violent hate speech and that's all they require.

The problem is that extremist right-wing dummies are not the majority of the country and they WILL remember trumps many lies.

I note you love the Oscars about as much as I enjoy that nauseating display of fawning self-congratulation and mutual back-slapping! At least we've got Gervais to take the (*)(*)(*)(*) out of the Golden Globes to level the playing field a bit.

By the same token, Democrats and Liberals who supporter Hillary are then absolute imbeciles because they don't hold her accountable for real crimes she committed. Trump is still lagging behind Hillary when it comes to lies. I doubt anyone can catch up with her.

And it wasn't necessarily what he said about torturing; it was how he said it: 'They will do what I tell them.' I've been saying he's fascist material for a few weeks. My jaw dropped opened when he pounded his chest and said that the military will obey him no matter what.

I am thinking that if he wins, there will be retribution to the ones who went against him. He might be Stalin with a comb over.

Things are pretty darn ass-backwards when Michael Hayden is portrayed as honoring the rule of law.

Our military would never be as irresponsible as the people supporting Donald, and they would never follow him to America's destruction, believe me.

Undoubtedly there are US soldiers that like him, or the "idea" of someone like him being their commander in chief but their commanders, that are not as "unhinged angry" as they are, and the people in charge would "never" allow Donald to break international laws or long standing Geneva convention laws (regardless of what Donald wants) to satisfy the feeble ranting's of someone so obviously out of touch with the rule book.

Don't worry, everyday & every time Donald opens his mouth, he shows more & more people all over the world just how dangerous & inept he is on just about every level.

The only thing his poll numbers prove is how ignorant people can be, and how much they put their "anger first" over "country first" - which is hilarious given the fact that most of the people supporting Donald now were all the same ones crying about "country first" years ago.

    My how things have changed...............

    More like:

"someone pulled him to the side, and told him to stop making such an @$$ of himself before his polling numbers start to slip in the other direction"

I must admit that I have no hope in common sense taking over the insane asylum.....

Donald will most assuredly be the republican nominee, and unless Hillary Clinton commits suicide.......she will be this country's next president.

Of course given this "crazy climate" even that's not guaranteed, so who knows what's going to happen.

Stay tuned in, it should get more & more interesting as we all go along.

Trump said he is for waterboarding-I agree.

He should get the law changed to allow it every day on terrorists.

Give those jihadis something to think about.

Since when has the US military refused to torture, maim and slaughter un-armed innocent people?
They do it all the time.
