This election has brought something to my attention that I had thought of before, but had no evidence to back it up. With the hyper ideological spectrum of the United States, I believe the US needs to abolish the two party system, and create a representative, direct democracy voting structure instead. 1.) Ban ALL cash donations to parties/politicians. 2.) Institute public funding of elections (spend as much/little as we want) and 3.) Create a system of 5 main political parties where the public votes for their party, not the individual running. NEW Parties Democratic Socialists- Those of us who support Bernie's ideas of universal healthcare, tuition free state university, empowering labor by unionizing workers and stopping all trade-deficit deals, as well as supporting women's rights, stopping mass incarceration, and instituting a national green energy platform. Outlook and understanding of the constitution is completely secular. Supports diplomacy to deal with foreign matters and massively cutting back on military spending and interventions overseas. Closer alliances with Western Europe and Canada while stopping all military aid to Israel. Supportive of being a neutral power broker regarding foreign policy. Democrats- Neo-liberal party that supports the globalist movement, foreign military intervention in matters of alliances with other nations, supports some alternative energy along with more fracking for natural gas, supporting trade deals to increase purchasing power of low wage countries and maximize profits for US based companies, supporting LGBT and women's rights, the politically correct/silicon valley crowd. Much friendlier relations with China and south east Asia, while alienating Russia and South America.Generally supportive of small, incremental change to the center left, and to the center right on military issues. Republicans- Neo-conservative/evangelical party that supports building an oversized military presence on the world stage, decrease income/capital gains tax to 15% or lower while increasing sales taxes, anti-choice anti-LGBT, pro-immigration, enables religious themes legislation to continue prayer in school, military chaplains expanded, very evangelical/baptist base. Reagan Republicans. Alienate any country that does not fall in line behind the USA's specific interests. Libertarians- Cut government spending on everything domestic and international, advocates for fiscal restraint and eliminating deficits, advocates for flat taxes at 5% or elimination of taxes altogether, ending foreign military interventions period, and are truly libertarian on social issues like legalizing drugs, abortion, immigration, gay marriage, polygamy, gambling, guns, etc. Isolationist on the world stage. Nationalist Party- Mostly consistent of populist, Trump supporters with a mix of Pat Buchanan's ideology, etc. Supports severe restrictions on immigration, stopping free trade deals, advocating for universal healthcare and jobs training programs, building a very large military but sparsely used only for deemed "necessary" conflicts, nationalist on country/racial lines, eliminating welfare and funding for inner cities and mass transit while keeping farming subsidies and suburban development commissions in place. Very tough on China, whilst proposing closer ties with Russia (depending on their leaders, etc.) Do you support changing our corrupt political system into something more workable and democratic? Which of these parties would you join in our new democracy?
Good work, ND this is definitely more sensible than the current system, although it wouldn't be good if America developed the coalition fever which we have in Europe. The right/neoliberal end of the Democratic spectrum is pro-imperialism. I mean, there were three new wars under Obama, and Hillary is even more hawkish than he was. Traditionally, conservatives of the strain inspired by Taine, Burke etc. are pro-immigration. This is more aligned with "liberal" conservatism (in the loose sense of the word), rather than nationalist or clerical conservatism.
Loaded names IMO. Rename republican party to conservative or neocon and Nationalist party to Populist or People's party or even Republican party or the American party if you insist on emphasizing nationalism, that would be more accurate. Other than that it looks good.
Nationalist party, because I am tired of the sellout globalist and the PC crowd that want to eliminate borders.
Trump is essentially a nationalist and he is about to take over the RP, so there is no real need for a Nationalist Party. IMO, only the small government Left is in desperate need of a new party.
I don't think we can name a party and put America in it, save that for the slogan or something. I honestly feel this would make people all over the spectrum happy, as it would also give proportional representation so nobody feels their vote is wasted, or that they have to vote for 2 people/parties they hate.
It is always all about small limited government vs. the leviathan state. The rest of politics is just shuck and jive.
Well, nationalist party has a negative connotation, let's call it the America First party then Ddyad is correct though, it is the republican party, as opposed to conservative/neocon party thst you called republican. Oh and please rename Bernie's party to the Communist party while you are at it lol
Ironically there is a 3rd party named "American First Party'(I believe it was disbanded though.) Many 3rd parties throughout America. I was going to propose the name: American Spiritualist Party.(ASP). Quite simply and succinctly put: The Spirit of America. American Spirit reverberating throughout the home of the free and the brave.
Kinda... Was just hinting at your obvious bias. You didn't give your favorite party a name with a negative connotation but you had to give your main competitor party a "loaded" name.
Honestly I didn't create them that way. BEFORE Bernie's success, some people thought "socialist" had negative connotations
I put nationalist cuz I thought it was going to be something else. Then I found out it involved Trump..... To be fair, some of what he is saying is not wrong, its his motivation that irks me. He is not doing any of this for his love of our country, but for his own selfish reasons. However, I am a nationalist in the sense that I would allign more with the policy of the British National Party, not the proposed one in this poll.
If there was a common-sense left party that was proactive of conservation without all the "We must filter rainwater and limit CO2 output to 2 pounds per year per company" I might be inclined to join it. The reality as I see it is that there are no left parties that have a lick of common sense about them. Everything has to be taken to the extreme and then the absurd.
You definitely sound like a Democrat. - - - Updated - - - Interesting, can you maybe compare the one I came up with to the BNP? I thought it was pretty similar...
Libertarians are only isolationist when it comes to military intervention. They are 100% in favor of free trade with no barriers to trade.
Its a dream that will never be fulfilled. It would take at least one constitutional amendment if not more. The SCOTUS has already ruled money equals speech. Next the Republicans and Democrats write our election laws and they do so as a mutual protection act. In other words our election laws are written to prevent a viable third party from rising. Its true those who affiliate or identify with the two major parties have fallen over the years from 80% to around 55% today. The two major parties are representing less and less Americans. The presidential match up given us today, Trump vs. Clinton is one around 60% of Americans do not want. So talk about third parties and doing away with our two party system has surfaced today in quite a few conversations. In my opinion this year our two party system is a complete failure. The only realistic way to voice your contempt and my feeling that our two major parties have succeeded in offering two bum candidates is to vote for a third party candidate on your ballot. It is not staying home and not voting, a message needs to be sent. If the two major parties offer us two unacceptable candidates, we need to voice that. Perhaps if on the day after the general we find the Libertarian Candidate with 15% of the vote and the Green Party with 10%, perhaps that might get their attention. Then again maybe not.
If you want more political parties, change the way you elect your congress to a proportional representation model. You'll end up splintering the big parties and have more parties than Carter has pills.
