I think he should be charged with whatever applicable violations of local law he has committed, though his personal history always plays a part in these things. Discharging his gun in a reckless and possibly criminal manner seems appropriate (depending on whether or not he can convince a judge that he feared for his safety). It's really not up to me.
Well it's not humorous. I certainly wouldn't want my kids playing Pokemon in front of people's houses at 1:30 in the morning for this very reason. So I can see why they would warn kids of the dangers of doing this.
Why do both sides get so snarky about stories like these? Have you every considered that part of the problem is people with extreme unwavering views that post comments leading to petty squabbles instead of any form of constructive conversation?
