August was Chicago's deadliest month in 20 years. There has even been talk of declaring a state of emergency and bringing in the National Guard to stop the violence. So much for more guns less crime. "In a city wrestling with a rise in gun violence and turmoil in its police department, August seemed like the longest month. By midnight on Wednesday, 90 murders had occurred in August alone, making it the deadliest month in Chicago in about 20 years. "Chicago, the nations third-largest city, has experienced more homicides this year than the bigger cities of Los Angeles and New York combined." http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/02/u...rod=nytcore-ipad&smid=nytcore-ipad-share&_r=0
Well since you started this thread you tell me what the percentages are of people legally acquiring guns for self defense in the areas where there are lots of crimes and then we can intellectually discus the effects of "Illinois processing gun permits" You must have known before you posted the thread since you seem so sure you are right. DOH!!! I bet you didn't know did you, you made an assumption. LOL Fish in a barrel eh?
You can't be talking to me?? Hell I carry everywhere I go and I have my Sig under my pillow thank yo! AA
Update Chicago: Chiraq has now passed the 500th "kill" mark with # 501 recorded yesterday in an otherwise slow shooting weekend. Early morning box scores are pending at this time.
When Summer ends, shootings lessen, the heat makes Felons less tolerable and hence, more shootings, the Law Abiding simply turn up the A/C or an oscilating fan.
That's been the cycle, at least in Chicago. I suspect that it's the amount of time spent on the streets increases the risk. The number of teenagers also on the street with nothing to do also increases. In short a target rich environment.
The question of the day ; If more Guns in society = more Crime; why does Crime continue to drop as every day, we have more Guns ??? Bonus question; as you examine the Crime metric and demographics, since 99 % of all Crimes are Gang / Drug related, how does restricting Law Abiding people's Rights = Crime Prevention ???
Police being too afraid to do their jobs in Chicago may work to our advantage. Thuglife will solve the problem for us, all we have to do is keep them in bounds.
Did you even read your article. At no point did they blame this on legal gun ownership. They blamed it on the fact that they can no longer do target stops in high crime neighborhoods where the violence is actually happening because the ACLU cried racism. Chicagoans problem isn't the 5 percent legal gun owners. It's poor black neighborhoods overrun by black gangs killing each other in turf wars. Just for side by side comparison the rest of illinios 10 million citizens are about 25 percent gun owners and only have 240 murders last year. There are more gun owners outside of Chicago then their are people in Chicago and they had half as many murders.
According to the Chicago Tribune newspaper, the problem is something far larger than legal firearms. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...-crimes-sentences-perspec-20160902-story.html
I've been shouting this from the rooftops for a long time. Lawmakers don't want to do anything about this because to do so would disproportionately incarcerate minorities.
Disproportionately? How is it disproportionate when you lock up the offenders? 100% of the offenders get locked up, 100% of the offenders get no chance to re-offend.
every see the movie ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK? - - - Updated - - - gun control-in its modern strain of the disease -was adopted by the Democrat party in the 60s so that the Democrat party could pretend it was doing something about violent street criminals without upsetting their important black constituency who saw a "crack down on street crime" as being anti black
