Relabeling it doesn't change the meaning behind it's celebration, now does it Sure it's a nice way to CYA but it still doesn't dismiss the fact that your celebrating the birth of Jesus, regardless of how the atheist attempt to spin it! I have Witness friends that have more conviction than atheists, and definitely don't celebrate Christmas or anything to do with Jesus.
I only use the term "Merry Christmas" on either Christmas Eve and/or Christmas day; otherwise the term "Happy Holidays" is what I use to everyone since other major religious holidays are celebrated during December. To use it on any other day is, in my opinion, inappropriate since it would be like saying "Happy St. Patrick's day" a week beforehand when in fact it should be said on the actual day you are celebrating the holiday.
It has only begun. Half the country is horrified. And before even entering office we have a trade war and a cold war looming. Yeah nukes are something to cheer about. Merry Christmas indeed. I would bet a month's wages that you won't be celebrating next year.
I would take that bet, if only because I'm unemployed. But China is far more dependent on American money than America is on Chinese money. I'm certain any trade war will be painful enough to both sides that it will be resolved swiftly. As for the half the country that is horrified, we have felt that way for the last eight years, get used to it. Merry Christmas, everyone, from this atheist and conservative.
You can thank Obama for rebuilding and modernizing our nuke srsenal. He has set aside one trillion dollars to do it. Merry Christmas!
Christmas, a time to reflect, to love one another, to respect one another. A time for peace and joy, not fights and agitation. Whether you believe or not, let it go for one day. It makes you the better man or woman for it. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate the birth of our Savior, happy Hanukkah to our Jewish friends, and a wonderful day filled with love to everyone and all.
If you don't want to accept the invite to that big party in the sky, you don't have to.. Jesus said- "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son...he told his servants- go out and invite to the banquet anyone you find" (Matt 22:2) PS- Jesus told his mates at the last supper- "I tell you, I will not drink wine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom." (Matt 26:29) That's me out then, I don't drink (sniffle)
relabeling? no. if you're referring to my use of the term "xmas", this is just a shortcut with the "x" representing the cross of the christian faith. i use the term out of respect for the tenets that the religion is supposed to be based upon, the love and inclusiveness that are the hallmarks of a truly christian life. if you're referring to my abandonment of the christian trappings of the holiday, i should remind you that christmas itself is a "relabeling". these relabeled occasions occur throughout the year and are opportunities, excuses if you will, to gather together and celebrate family, friendship and life in general. you don't have to be a christian to understand the importance of these things.
it's funny, but i have always envied those who are able to embrace religion. i'm simply incapable of that sort of faith. i've tried, but i always knew that i wasn't being honest about it and have often suspected that many who express such faith are being equally disingenuous. instead i have chosen to place a wary faith in the better aspects of humanity, hoping that they will win out in the end if they are given the opportunity to be expressed.
What are you basing this comparison on? I see Trump trying to unite Americans not divide and conquer as obama did
Uh, what? I'm an atheist and celebrate Christmas every year. Are you under the misconception it's a religious holiday?
Forget the word "religion" and simply embrace Jesus himself in a man-hug, that's all he wants.. "You're my friends if you follow me. I don't call you servants, but I call you friends"- (John 15:15) Then when we die he'll stick with his pals and look after our souls. But if anybody doesn't like him they haven't got a chance. The bottom line is there's nothing about him to dislike..
I wasn't referring to the "X"mass Nice explanation but there is more to it then that if even that! Regardless of how it's written, Happy Birthday Jesus Christ
You may have convinced yourself that it's not by parsing some werds, but it's clearly a commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ also known as the Son of God. Of course whats a few BILLION religious folks and centuries of study and belief have over a handful of folks that believe they came from monkeys and evolved to celebrate what they don't believe in one day a year and preach it's insanity the other 364
