This is an idea that may have actual merit. Police officers can stand down and inform protestors, rioters, and anarchists that they are allowed to use whatever means they wish in getting their message out to the people, while also warning them that the people are legally able to use whatever degree of force, even deadly force, in response to these protests efforts if they either feel their lives are in danger, or their property is targeted for destruction, and will face no legal consequences if a protestor dies as a result.

How many rioters, protestors, and anarchists, will feel motivated to get their message out through the use of violent acts, if they know that they can be killed for doing such?

So how do you know when your "message has been heard"?

What if your message has been heard and rejected?

Police: "rioter, meet pavement and cuffs. Pavement and cuffs, meet rioter. You guys should get along fine."

    exactly.

heck, we've had the same 3 or 4 old peeps marching on the sidewalk near planned parenthood for probably 2 years now, stupid signs, I've been ignoring them every day on the way to work for a long time, I barely notice them.

but they are quiet and don't step in front of traffic, so that's fine, I recommend a hobby like knitting or golf or anything else but as long as they stay on their side I can handle it.

I think if the rioters knew they could direct their physical anger at the people in power, you'd see less businesses burned, and more halls of government destroyed.

Yes, because the "smart" thing to do is burn down the house across the street when you have a beef with your next door neighbor.

No one said anything about burning down our neighbors. You clearly do not read very well. You should try fixing that.

Trump and the one-percent, deregulated business interests, bailed-out monopolies, ignore-the-constituents type representatives sold out to campaign financers - these types have plagued this nation since time immemorial. Hurray for the protesters, they alone will get something done, (like they got civil rights legislation passed, the Viet Nam war stopped). It is certain that nothing the American people want will get done under Trump. More Protests! More "takin' it to the streets," more of us standing up to the sold-out gunsels of the right, more picketing, more dissidence, more marches - let's have "a nation of the people, by the people, for the people BY WHATEVER MEANS NECESSARY!!!!!!

Riots are impossible without police cooperation.

Trump has been in office long enough to have a cup of coffee. He hasn't deregulated (*)(*)(*)(*).

The riots of the 60s involved arrested protesters getting night-sticked while handcuffed, karate-chopped in delicate places while searched up against the wall. Riots of the 60s involved cops with badges taped over going crazy on unarmed dissidents, involved the National Guard murdering unarmed students (Kent State, Berkeley). Read some history, learn the facts, don't just parrot the propaganda; think for yourself, muster some empathy and compassion for The People, you know, your fellow wage-slaves. Try to respect CHARACTER, don't just base your judgment on superficialities like race, like class. Respect diversity. BROADEN YOU MIND.

Funny thing is, some people actually think that enforcing laws is living in a police state lolol.

By "be productive" you must mean being diligent wage-slaves at their dead-end, exploitation jobs - watching the vast majority of their coworkers just sit there and take it, forget about unionizing, forget about decent wages - just watch the take-backs, down-sizing, outsourcing and do nothing, say nothing. Yeah, that's worked real good for the last 40 years, while the one-percent, the moneyed elite, the capitalist have kept all the profits.

What a simplistic attitude. The people "lost an election". People who win elections win them by having campaigns financed by greedy capitalists. When they win the elections they represent the interests of the campaign financers, not the interests of the people. A bunch of bought-up factotums, yes-men and -women shilling for the one-percent sit on their hands pouting while their fellow wage-slaves take great risks to make their just outrage known.

You see the way those cops treated a bunch of unarmed (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) liberal protesters? The police have definitely become more militarized, both in their equipment and their tactics.

Has anyone else notices that riots always occur in DEMOCRATIC controlled cities?

They were illegally blocking roads endangering people and refused to stop.

I grew up hearing from first hand accounts of what was going on. Like a lot of people my parents were from that generation in los angelos ca. Where most knew and or witnessed what was going on. One of which being the watts riots.

Like many believed tye war wasnt a good idea. And civil rights is important. But that doesnt make it right to act like idiots. There are civil ways of doing things.

In any case most of the disgust going on to them when it comes to protesting was the treatment of vets coming home. Far outweighing some police brutality. Far more damaging to the heart and soul. Disgusting.

Not that long ago we were in ww2. My grandfather was a son of German immigrants. Him and his two brothers gladly enlisted to fight the nazis and japanese. Without a thought. My grandfather whom tried to get in was a 4f due to osteomylitis. He was missing part of his but due to his diseaae. Told the recruiting station he sat on a bottle when he was a baby. Anyways he couldnt get in. Being at home he was under suspician due to his parents being german immigrants.

Never once did he complain. Never once did his brothers complain. There used to be this thing called understanding of the wellfare and safety of your fellow americans. This thing called patriotism. Im not sure where its gone as i hear all the crying and whining going on. Hopefully its exaggerated by the press and the overprivilaged.

Radical islam is like the new nazis without a uniform. Lets not let them get that powerful.

When jobs/promotions are given on the basis of MERIT and not personalities, preference - when owners/bosses respect workers' rights to decent pay/benefits rather than just kicking them out on the streets when technology obsolesces their jobs - then I will respect your sacred PROPERTY, I will acknowledge your right to the fruits of your labor. Until then, the whole system is based on exploitation, and your touted SUCCESS isn't worth anything. The yuppies of the 80s really did a number on their kids, so those kids' children ended up largely propagandized and deluded like their parents. I know what a court-martial feels like. I've seen the workings of the Military-Industrial complex at its worst. I know returning combat veterans gave out that hippies spit at them (a lie) - I know that war protesters often never were allowed a decent job afterwards, I know their degrees never counted for anything. But veterans (and apologists for the conservative agenda) were given an easy ride, everything they wanted. The protesters resort to violence out of a sense of futility, out of frustration; the "duly constituted" authorities instigate violence as an on-going policy. Read "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. Open up your mind. Develop some empathy. Have compassion. Character means more than money.

Yes I watched them throw them to the ground, because liberal protesters are blocking the street using force, and have been known in the past to fight and injure police officers. This was absolutely a necessary use of force. So they got a scrapped knee...I know for delicate snow flakes that seems like a lot but it really isn't.

You have no idea what an actual police state is lol.

Great job officers! Looking forward to more law and order in the future.

Our police routinely overreact and at times cause injury and even death unnecessarily, though. It's a disturbing trend.
