FBI can't say how many guns are purchased. All they can do is report on the number of background checks are performed. If I remember correctly only about 75% of background checks result in an actual sale. The 4473 is a former used to prove the transfer of the weapon and attest to a background check being performed. I believe only the store that the firearm was purchased from has a copy of it.
That may be true, but we have 13 million people in America who get to skip the background checks. I've bought 8 or 9 guns since I got my CHL and haven't had to do one background check.

The "left" has never disagreed with the right to bear arms. The left also agrees with Scalia in the Heller decision that States have the right to regulate those guns. BTW, the right to own guns for private use is not in the Constitution. It is a natural right, and could be classified under self defense, and other rights. The difference is that a Constitutional right can be taken away, while a natural right cannot. Finally, I do not consider myself to be "left".
