I am a Trump supporter, but I try to be respectful of other people's views. (Not always successful, but trying). But there are two types of folks I can't stand. One are people who don't want the U.S. to be successful if it is under President Trump. I didn't vote for Obama and don't like him, but I still wanted America to succeed. And I gave him a chance. The other type are those who want to fundamentally change what the U.S. is and always has been. I mean we can debate, discuss and even argue about what our country's problems are and the best solutions, but if you want to live in a socialist country, then rescind your U.S. citizenship and go live in one (Venezuela anyone?) If you want completely open borders, move to Germany (I hear they'll take anyone). If you don't want to live in a Christian country, then go ahead and move to Saudi Arabia. You know other countries accept immigrants too. But don't try to fundamentally change America.

What you seem to miss is that this IS a partially socialist country (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Progressive taxation) and has been longer than you've been alive.

It is Trumpers who seem to want to change what this country is.

As I've said many times...if you want to live where government doesn't exist...try Somalia. I doubt you'd like it much

We have limited government, it's true. And we take care of our poorest, elderly, just as we should. But this is not a socialist country. Trump supporters simply want to get back to our basic values. No one wants to live in a completely government-less country.

Maybe we should say "If you can be a BIGOT" then stay out of America :applause:

This is very true. Which is why I get frustrated when people take the term "conservative" literally.

Can't say I've ever met anyone completely satisfied with the status quote. Therefore, we're all "progeessives" of a sort, in that we want to progress to whatever it is we view as the ideal society.

We might disagree on what that direction is, but we all seem to agree that there's moving to be done. Which is why I'm such a fan of heavily decentralised power.

Sorry but we are not a nation with a state religion much as you seem to want that.

Again...you seem to want a change

With all due respect, Trump voters voted for him for a wide range of reasons. Some liked his campaign promises of jobs and better, cheaper health care. Some want immigration to be lessened. Some didn't like Hillary Clinton. Some wanted conservative Supreme Court justices. Some were willing to take a chance on something very different. Some may have been persuaded by propaganda, social media targeting, or disinformation. Some may have believed Trump was self-funding his campaign, or for other reasons. Because you voted for Trump "to get back to basic values" doesn't mean everyone else did. You don't speak for all Trump voters any more than I do, and I was not a Trump voter. I'll also point out that among American voters, more than 3 million more Americans didn't vote for Trump than did.

Since you're using the idea that the majority of people are Christian, therefore this is a Christian country, you should also realize that our Constitution is there to guarantee the rights of the minority despite how the majority may try to limit those rights.

America is not a socialist country, but we have some socialist practices… like Social Security.

You don't get to pick and choose who can stay in America, or what opinions they hold on socialism or anything else. Every citizen has freedom of speech. They, likewise, don't get to tell you to rescind your citizenship and move out if you don't like who the President is, what laws are made, etc.

Lastly, there is always going to be change. To resist it is to be frustrated. Our government is there to apply laws to control how the change impacts the American people, but not to stop it. It cannot be stopped any more than you can stop aging.

We already live in a socialist country. American conservatives really need to get a clue and stop shouting slogans instead of thinking and discussing matters in a meaningful way. We also live in a secular country, not a Christian one. Big difference, and essential to what makes our country great.

So if anyone has different views than you they should just leave. Sound about right for a Trumpee.

Who specifically has called for open borders or socialism?

Indeed, so-called Christians are often authoritarians trying to impose their delusions on the rest of us.

Why would anyone have tolerance for someone who wants to violate the first amendment?

    Rose colored glasses.
This country has always had diverse points of view. And it's history was never as pretty as you seem to think.
You want to pretend that it was always a white-bread society, but just look at the names of cities and states. Half are either based in American Indian culture or Spanish culture. A united country? Does the American Civil War mean anything? Would there ever have been the need for civil rights marches if all were flowers and roses in the past?
A Christian country? Which denomination? Mormons? Catholics? Amish? Baptists?
You want to pretend that America was always just like you. It never was.

OK, so the Christian thing I said seems to have really struck a nerve. Not saying people shouldn't have freedom to worship (or not) in any way they choose. And yes, our government gives all of us that right. Just that the United States was indeed founded by Christians, on a Christian value system (why we don't approve of killing people who don't believe as we do), and up until recently it certainly seemed like Christianity was the majority religion like it or not. If I gave anyone the idea I am anti-any-religion-you-want-to-choose, sorry, not true. However, if I didn't love this country, fundamentally, the way it was created, I would I hope have the courage to move to another country that was closer to my beliefs.

What is the U.S. and what has it "always been"? The U.S. underwent extremely dramatic change between 1800 and 1900, and again between 1900 and 2000. There's a vast milieu of interpretations of what this country's "founding values" even are.

As long as you are clear that Christianity has no more sway over this country than islam, Buddhism...etc. we are fine.
