Of course they are doing it for ratings. Just like any other media outlet, their only job is to draw eye balls and clicks so they can sell advertising.

At one point, it was honest and thorough reporting that drew those eyeballs. Today it's confirmation bias and sensational headlines.

When today's trend runs it's course, maybe it will go back to honest and thorough reporting again.

The shock, for profit media doing things to make a profit....

But, isn't that what our conservative friends want? Everything in life determined by the profit motive? So, why not have that in media too? If a profit is made, it doesn't matter whether news is fake or not. That's the whole mantra of the right wing media and blogosphere as well.

In fact, the very guy introducing the video calls it "the biggest story of the year". So much for only going for ratings, truth be damned. Can you smell the giant hypocrisy in this guy's feigned outrage for profit, so he can have more Trump fans click on his video and bring in advertising money?

    Give me a break...

Interesting how you turned it around and ignored the fact that they admit there's absolutely no evidence for their story and President trump has been right all along it's nothing but a WITCH HUNT. You just did what the left -wing biased media has been doing since Trump Declared he was running.. Just like they did in the video ."That's enough of this Paris Accords B.S. lets get back to fake Russia" !!

First, show me a post where I have ever commented on the Russia collusion theory? I am not interested in it.

Second, I don't even watch CNN or other for-profit media. I don't have cable at home.

I rather make up my mind by doing my own reading than have talking heads on TV opining n everything. Or I listen to NPR. But I know the latter is also rather verboten in conservative land.

I didn't notice any points you made. Just looked like a typical attack on anything right of Stalin.

3/4 of everything we've heard on the news for the past 30 years was probably bs. We've been living in their reality, but no more.

It's MSNBC's Morning Joe show that hasn't gone 30 seconds in the past year without saying the word Trump. Trump=ratings. That's one of the reasons he got elected.

Remember this , I know your right !
Operation Mockingbird was allegedly a large-scale program of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) that began in the early 1950s and attempted to manipulate news media for propaganda purposes. It funded student and cultural organizations and magazines as front organizations.

I was born in the 50's but it doesn't surprise me. Even back in the 1800's the newspapers played politics back then.

The thing about CNN is that they still market that they are the news, and not entertainment. Obviously, that's just what the marketing says. I think plenty of America are voting with their feet, and viewership of CNN is only going to further erode as folks begin to understand the enormity of the libelous behavior they have engaged in.

I made the point that the guy in the video attacked CNN doing anything for ratings (profit), while at the same time he does anything for ratings (profit) too. And the OP berates CNN for fake news, while citing a video from the inventors of fake news, Breitbart and Project Veritas. Of course, you probably believe what is told to you from those far right sources, because it fits your far right world view. That's exactly what those news outlets make profit from. Then you turn around and criticize CNN for the same thing. It would actually be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Apparently Mockingbird was a cold war anti-Soviet Union operation to counter the propaganda they felt the communists were placing in the European press. Interesting that now the charge is that CNN, and others, are seeding there reporting with anti Russian reporting including a claim of a possible Russian connection to the president of the United States.

"The claim that the CIA ran an "Operation Mockingbird" first[non-primary source needed] appeared in Katharine the Great, a 1979 biography of Washington Post owner Katharine Graham, written by reporter Deborah Davis.[1] According to Davis, Operation Mockingbird was established by Frank Wisner, director of the Office of Policy Coordination, a covert operations unit created by the U.S. National Security Council. Davis writes that Mockingbird was a response to the creation of a Communist front organization, the International Organization of Journalists, which "received money from Moscow and controlled reporters on every major newspaper in Europe, disseminating stories that promoted the Communist cause."[2]

Wisner recruited Philip Graham from The Washington Post to run the project within the industry. According to Davis, "By the early 1950s, Wisner 'owned' respected members of The New York Times, Newsweek, CBS and other communications vehicles."[3]

In 1951, Allen W. Dulles persuaded Cord Meyer to join the CIA. According to Deborah Davis, Meyer became Mockingbird's "principal operative."[4]

After 1953, the media network was overseen by CIA Director Allen Dulles, by which time Operation Mockingbird had major influence over 25 newspapers and wire agencies.[5] The usual method was placing reports developed from intelligence provided by the CIA to cooperating or unwitting reporters. Those reports would be repeated or cited by the preceding reporters, which in turn would then be cited throughout the media wire services. These networks were run by people with well-known liberal but pro-American big business and anti-Soviet views, such as William S. Paley (CBS), Henry Luce (Time and Life Magazine), Arthur Hays Sulzberger (New York Times), Alfred Friendly (managing editor of the Washington Post), Jerry O'Leary (Washington Star), Hal Hendrix (Miami News), Barry Bingham, Sr. (Louisville Courier-Journal), James Copley (Copley News Services) and Joseph Harrison (Christian Science Monitor).[5]"

    "THE CIA AND THE MEDIA

How Americas Most Powerful News Media Worked Hand in Glove with the Central Intelligence Agency and Why the Church Committee Covered It Up

    BY CARL BERNSTEIN

In 1953, Joseph Alsop, then one of America’s leading syndicated columnists, went to the Philippines to cover an election. He did not go because he was asked to do so by his syndicate. He did not go because he was asked to do so by the newspapers that printed his column. He went at the request of the CIA.

Alsop is one of more than 400 American journalists who in the past twenty‑five years have secretly carried out assignments for the Central Intelligence Agency, according to documents on file at CIA headquarters. Some of these journalists’ relationships with the Agency were tacit; some were explicit. There was cooperation, accommodation and overlap. Journalists provided a full range of clandestine services—from simple intelligence gathering to serving as go‑betweens with spies in Communist countries. Reporters shared their notebooks with the CIA. Editors shared their staffs. Some of the journalists were Pulitzer Prize winners, distinguished reporters who considered themselves ambassadors without‑portfolio for their country. Most were less exalted: foreign correspondents who found that their association with the Agency helped their work; stringers and freelancers who were as interested in the derring‑do of the spy business as in filing articles; and, the smallest category, full‑time CIA employees masquerading as journalists abroad. In many instances, CIA documents show, journalists were engaged to perform tasks for the CIA with the consent of the managements of America’s leading news organizations."

So now you are going to tell me what outlets I use?

Since you know so much, how many times a week do I visit those sites?

Please point put where I criticised CNN for this.

And you didn't make any of those points in your first response. You just did the typical attack the right responses.

    From your above post:

"Of course they are doing it for ratings."

Isn't that criticizing CNN? Or did you not mean it that way?

Second, I said the OP cited fake news, like Breitbart, not you.

It would help to read posts before responding.

Um, a for profit media organization doing something for ratings. Whatever is this world coming to? What's next - Walmart rolling back prices to make sales?

Hmm... Obviously, you are unfamiliar with the public trust offered to organizations like CNN and their acceptance of that trust. Obviously, CNN forgot about those obligations as well. CNN has always been premised on the idea that they were a news organization not an entertainment element. Now, admitting that reporting truthfully isn't a priority, well, that's sort of the death toll for CNN as a reputable news purveyor. CNN is not admittedly dishonest, and uncaring that they knowingly are being used to spread the propaganda of the left.

CNN does things for ratings. Fox News does things for ratings. MTV does things for ratings. When you're in the for-profit media business, you do things for ratings. And in other news, water is wet.

Yeah, I think that was obvious to some people. They are doing this for ratings and to try to rile up the leftists who just suffered some serious losses.
