Your charge here is hollow, since you're squawking about allowing someone who CAN pay to do so.

Trump's now crazed and dazed opposition is stunned to discover that ordinary people identify with the parents of a baby condemned by Death Panels.
Did they think that normal human beings would identify with and support the Death Panels?
Trump's tweets have thrown his opposition beyond the orbit of objective reality. And the whole world is watching.

Good grief. No one knows. The treatment is a new protocol based upon new research into this exceedingly rare condition.

What ideology is being protected here? You're the one condoning bureaucracy making life and death decisions, instead of immediate family. By your silly characterization, any terminally ill person is a 'lab rat'.

When exactly should a terminally ill patient stop treatment, Hastings?

Actually, this isn't anything but your narrative, parroted by someone who wrote that narrative. There are medical professionals on both sides of this issue. The ones who are not beholding to the ideology of bureaucratically controlled health care also happen to be the ones saying that this treatment is at least worth a shot.

You cannot ask the infant if they wish to endure pain in order to gain a small chance of recovery, so why wouldn't the next of kin be the logical resource for that decision, particularly since they have already demonstrated the resourcefulness to acquire the funds necessary to pay?

Your appeal to emotion rings hollow since you want to end a kid's life because you don't think a chance is worth taking a chance.

Your own child should quake in fear.

Not at all. My position, which I have often presented here, is that the entire productive working class should receive a very large vested healthcare account from funds diverted from failed or inadequate corrupt government programs and agencies.

All others who cannot work and pay for care should be covered by government or private charity.

    Welcome to the site.

In this case I agree, based on what I have heard. A few years ago I wouldnt have, but my wife works in the ICU and hearing the stories about loved ones keeping their family members alive in torture because they cannot bear to let go... it is a horrible position. I understand NOT letting go until every option is exhausted though.

No, you have to lie about what I posted because your "argument" is so ridiculous.
This is what I posted: """ your fantasy "death panels" .""

By "ordinary people" I think you are referring to yourself....normal people know there is no such thing....

I'm very shocked by the attitude expressed by some of the people on this thread. Some are acting as if they know this child's mind better than anyone else. They've decided that his suffering is too much; they've decided that he doesn't want to be a guinea pig. I don't see any reason to believe any of this. In fact, I'd bet if this boy could speak, he'd be more willing than people think. The will to survive is a very powerful drive.

I know for a fact that I'd gladly volunteer for experimental treatment with a very low chance of success that may do nothing more than simply prolong my suffering for a short while longer.

:) You finally admitted the baby is in pain, MY, how compassionate of you! """""You cannot ask the infant if they wish to endure pain in order to gain a small chance of recovery,""

Yes, the baby can't speak for itself, it can't think or hear either something you want to condemn it to for the rest of it's painful life.

...and the if the next of kin decide the baby should suffer more, as they have, since the baby can't say, ""Why, mom, do you hate me so much you want me to suffer ?"

Then it is right and just that the court steps in and speaks for it as it does other children who are in danger of harm by idiot snowflake parents who can't grow a spine and do what is best for the child instead of what is the best for themselves...

AND as long as you have to resort to personal insults, IF my that was my child I would think of it first, I would have the courage and compassion to let it die rather than force it into a life of pain so I could feel all warm and fuzzy...that would be despicable....

Okay, so the mutation he has is known, it affects a ribonucleotide reductase, thus interfering with the synthesis of deoxynucleotide and the concomitant reduction in mitochondrial DNA synthesis. Thus, there is a scientific basis for trying nucleoside supplements, in order to increase the flow through the deoxynucleotide synthesis pathway. In addition, the notion of the doctors that nucleosides cannot pass the blood brain barrier is not supported by basic research evidence.

Thus, I don't understand why the British doctors do not support testing nucleoside supplement therapy. There seems not much to lose.

In any case, I stand by the notion that much of the relevant knowledge of the biochemical pathways and potential treatments involved have been gained through basic research, much of it federally funded. Thus, it is hypocritical of Trump to pretend to help this single child, but then try to cut the funding that allowed us the knowledge to help this child in the first place.

Thus, this seems to be just another publicity stunt for him, just like the one time Carrier "deal", which helps a very small number of people, but his overall policies hurt a vast number of people in similar situations.

Fox! You are taking yourself out of context! This is your conclusion at the end of your post: "Now show me how Trump's tweet will end "death panels"..."FH

Hence, my conclusion that you were finally admitting the obvious.

Thanks to Trump's quick tweet, and the extended desperate denials of the now obvious truth, the whole world now knows for sure that there are government Death Panels and that they are very deadly.
Very good for Trump - very damaging to Trump's opposition.

:roflol:So easy to drool, ""Oh, look, Trump got rid of death panels with one tweet"....when they never existed in the first place!

You are a barrel of laughs!

No, I didn't - and the charge of what the baby feels is a cowardly appeal to emotion based upon nothing substantial.

It's ironic that the same sorts of people who are quick to claim that this 11 month old has virtually no brain function but can still feel pain (since pain is only possible with brain function, derp) - but in the same breath bloviate that a fetus feels nothing during abortion.

You are so sure of what this baby cannot do, but so sure of what it can do at the same time.

    Sounds delusional.

    Appeal to emotion. Fallacy. Tsk.

You're accusing me of resorting to insults? That wasn't an insult, Hastings - and no one is surprised that you'll now claim whatever you need to claim in order to support your ridiculous position.

Don't you realize your hypocrisy when you state you are anti-government and pro-trump? Don't you realize that trump is government?

Noticed the selective highlighting you did there where you deliberately tried to misrepresent what I said.

Why is intellectual dishonesty (aka lying) so common in conservative circles?

:) Nothing substantial but what it's doctor's say......maybe you think doctors are all bad or have no idea what they're talking while YOU do but that's not true

Here's an appeal to emotion based on nothing substantial :: You: """Your own child should quake in fear. """"

It's ironic how the same sort of people who claim a fetus can feel pain (when clearly science says it can't) make the claim that this baby can feel no pain...despite what the doctors say...

You deny what it's own doctors say, THAT is delusion. :)

Yup, here it is again :You: """Your own child should quake in fear. """"

"no one" ? First you know more than the doctors , now you speak for everyone.....wow, I am so NOT impressed....you'll now claim whatever you need to claim in order to support your ridiculous position

Now Fox, if you overreact like this every time Trump wins an easy victory over the elite global political class you may eventually require emergency treatment. What will you do if they deny you the medication you need?

I can only hope that they will still allow you to tweet Trump for help. :)

With all due respect, it is the role of government to protect those who are unable to protect themselves, even from their parents. This is what, for instance, being pro-life means. From what I understand, there is really no chance of reversal, and when discussing these issues there is a quality of life discussion at the core of the argument. Doctors and nurses take an oath to do no harm, and this is why you will find they overwhelmingly side on the courts decision.

It is tragic, but keeping this child alive artificially is cruel. Road to hell and best intentions.

Find yourself alert and oriented but intubated and tell me how willing you will be to undergo some experimental proceedure. Without restraints you will be ripping that thing out of you inside an hour.

You are demonstrating a lack of critical thinking. Someone who campaigns on eliminating/shrinking much of Government can be elected President, and follow through on their ideology.

Reagan did it, and Trump is doing it.

Fox, ordinary human beings know better that to "LIKE" government.

    'It'?

Half of my family is in the medical profession. These doctors have said that they cannot do anything more.

That doesn't mean that no one can, and it isn't your place to intercede in that maintenance of hope.

If my mom was bloviating that she wouldn't exhaust all options to keep me alive, I'd be worried.

Your children should be worried for the same reason.

Is it? You claimed that this child was brain dead. Are you claiming the same of a fetus?

'It'? It's an 11 month old boy, Hastings. It isn't an 'it'. I think it's dehumanizing enough for you to wish it dead; do you really need to strip him of his gender identity as well?

I know I would be were I so cursed.

Your argument is irrational. I'm stating an argument. You're free to produce someone who is surprised at your tactics.
