Every 11 years the sun cycles between more and less activity and sunspots including solar flares etc. But the sun is also on a longer cycle of solar maxima and minima. The sun now appears to be heading into a grand solar minima. The trajectory is now on that course with a prediction of 20% over the next 50 years but 50% over the next 100. The effects of the Little Ice Age were more pronounced regionally than globally but the northern hemisphere was significantly affected especially in Europe and N America leaving the Medieval Warm period and settling into the Little Ice Age. I'm certain this thread will become a battleground for global warming but I find it very interesting we are adding more science into the equation. And it's obvious we don't know enough at this point to make accurate predictions with a great deal of certainty. I do see us leaving the Grand Minima and returning over time into another cycle of warming by our stellar neighbor so before the High Priests of Global Warming order my purging by fire let me say the inhabitants of earth need to be good stewards. Just for grins l will throw a curve around the plate by saying we are still in a grand die off or mass extinction not from just from global warming but primarily from encroachment of habitat which is obviously man caused. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/s...-global-warming-warn-scientists-10340067.html
There are more recent articles. Google it. That's just to verify and get you started. I'll add a more to date ref. We are slowing down from the maxima. But you'd have known that if you were interested in learning instead of attacking. This isn't meant to address global warning but is of interest in understanding a small part of our suns mechanics.
http://www.historicalclimatology.co...r-minimum-new-perspectives-on-an-old-question I think this is from 2016 but the science of the Maunder minimum has been with us for awhile so please overlook the slightly out of date article which I think is pretty good BTW. It should stimulate you to do some research. What's the story on rapid waning of the sun not seen in 9300 years?
They have been speculating on this for a while - especially when the last solar cycle was "late". It would be grand if this WERE true as it would give us more time to clean up our act in relation to climate change but unfortunately we do not have enough information to make a good and reliable prediction
Indeed. I fear we will waste it. My hope is fusion. Not the direction of many but the right one.....the main right one to be more precise.
No you're trolling in a science thread that specifically stated it wasn't about global warming. But you just can't seem to help yourself. If you can't add to the conversation about the sun's output, the Maunder minimum and maximum, etc then why not just sit back and learn rather than muck the thread up?
Only because it fits your agenda and you have no interest in learning much less contributing to this thread in a meaningful way. Just a judgment call but I suspect you're incapable of providing anything of worth. So you just keep trolling in a vain attempt to save face. The topic is the Maunder minimum and the sun's waving output. Here's another lead to the topic written by a former Harvard prof: http://www.newsweek.com/solar-minimum-sun-weird-behaviour-631276
the Little Ice Age was blamed on the Maunder Minimum, but now we know there were other variables at play. plus it did not cause global temps to decrease. if low numbers of sunspots realy meant global temps would drop, they would have. but they didnt
Yes global temps did go down 1-1.5 degrees but the effects were greater regionally than globally. Now why is that? Isn't that interesting? Doesn't that make you wonder why if the sun's output dropped there were more effects in the northern hemisphere. There was volcanic activity I believe but I'll have to go back and review the Little Ice Age before I'm certain. Perhaps you could check me? And it's not just lowered amounts of sunspots involved. There's much more to it than that. There's a lot of interesting information related to solar output associated with the 11 year cycle as well as the minima/maxima amongst a great deal more including the solar wind, cosmic radiation, cloud formation related to cosmic rays, solar flares, and much more. If you're interested in global warming then look beyond increases in CO2 and some methane.
But the proponents of strict man made global warming don't want to look beyond co2 and cow farts. Try to get some gov't funding in researching other factors involved in global warming. But before you apply for any such funding, make sure you have tenure, just to be on the safe side. For when suddenly the usual debate and questioning traditionally found in science is mysteriously absent with contrary voices being called all sort of insulting names as if to shut them up, we are witnessing something highly unusual in science, although one is quite familiar with such behavior in religion.
I don't see it as anything new. The earth is the center of the universe. The earth is flat. Mars behaves the way it does going backwards for complicated reasons. Groupthink is not new nor is persecution over evolution in the 50s. It doesn't help some deny global warming despite the evidence anymore than shaming etc for wondering what the data means and how much is trustworthy. But it is so annoying as well as concerning. Science doesn't need to be political but politicians are going to politicize everything they get their hands on.
yes, the world is getting warmer. yes, man-made emissions are playing a part of that. how much is the question, as is how much warmer will we make the earth?
Because it is popular to say so. Take the last word, PAH-Leeze Got recorded history? Fahrenheit or Centigrade?
