1; All doctors who have reviewed his case have states that there is zero chance of him ever recovering.

2; There is an experimental procedure in the US which his parents think could work, which has never been tested on a human with his condition.

3; The procedure is not free, and his parents are demanding that the UK taxpayers pay for it under their universal healthcare.

4; The UK government refuses to cover the procedure on the advise of the doctors who have reviewed the case who say that even if there was a chance of the procedure working, it would be a very small chance, somewhere between 1% and 3%.

5; The UK government is not stopping them from paying for the procedure themselves, as conservatives claim. They simply refuse to pay for it, claiming that if there is little or no chance of it working, it would be immoral to waste money which could be used to help people who actually have a chance to survive.

6; His parents have made effort to raise the money themselves, but have no raised enough to pay for both travel and the costs of the procedure itself.

7; The lawsuits against the UK government is to force them to cover the costs. Conservatives falsely claim that the lawsuit was filed because the UK banned them from traveling to the US and attempting the procedure out of pocket.

I'm starting to doubt the sincerity of the parents. There is something bizarre about wanting to prolong a pathetic tortured life void of quality and claim that you are doing it out of love for that life. A normal person would not want to prolong the indignity and suffering.

Actually the lawsuit is primarily over whether or not to take him off life support.

He's going to die no matter what within a year regardless of what they do.. Wasting money on a treatment that will most likely not work anyway, would risk the deaths of others because there would be less money to be used for treatment coverage. YOU are the one demanding that others die to pretend there is a chance that this kid will live

So, if your kid was sick and dying, and the only way you could get treatment was with government aid, and if your kid got treatment he would definitely live, and a couple sued the government to force them to use the money that would go to treating you kid on theirs, even though there was no chance of their kid surviving, you would be ok with your son dying as a result? Cause that's what's going on. They are demanding that others go without treatment so that their son can continue even though he's brain dead and will NOT live regardless of what they do.

Actually that's not true. If his parents wish to pay 100% of his care out of pocket they can. The government is simply pulling their funding to keep him on life support. They are not forcing them to pull the plug. His parents are sueing to force the UK taxpayers to pay for their son's care when, according to the doctors, there is no chance of him living. They can't afford the treatment, and the government decided that their funds are better served being used for people who actually have a chance to survive.

I had a daughter who had cancer. The doctors said she had no chance to live, and I chose to let her go instead of letting her suffer through useless treatments. A true parent does what is best for the child. These people only care about their own feelings and not the fact that they are forcing their son to go through agonizing pain just so they can make THEMSELVES feel better.

I'm sorry for your loss, but you made your decision, and you allow other people to make their decisions. It is not up to you to judge them either. Nobody knows if this child is in pain or not, and that is a pretty bad thing that you did there, making up a lie and judging these parents based upon it.

It's pretty heartless, and inappropriate to make people into monsters, when all they're doing is trying to keep their child alive.

Like I said, if you would force your kid to go through agonizing pain with no chance of them ever getting better, you do not love them. You only do so because it makes you feel better and keeps you from having to face the sadness of losing them. You would rather let them suffer than let their suffering end because if they di you would be sad. Your happiness is more important to you than theirs.

Again, keep your judgments. I'm sure these parents couldn't care less what you think about their personal decision about their child and wanting to try an alternative treatment.

Are you saying that you wouldn't try an alternative treatment?

well if they didn't love them, then they wouldn't be "sad" for losing them and trying to keep them alive, now would they? Most parents I've known who had a sick child or a child who was terminal would have tried ANYTHING to save their child from death.

She had a natural brain tumor. Very rare at her age. And the type she had was inoperable. When she died I got attacked by a lot of people for letting her die. Mostly fake Christians who have the mentality that it's better for her to suffer through cancer and useless treatments.

I agree. And when you hear of cases such as this it make you realize that not everyone has the common sense and strength of will and courage to make the right decision for the child. Letting go of someone that you love, especially a child is far from easy and a horrible experience that no parent should have to endure, but people do hang on for selfish reasons...their fear of dealing with the loss.

Here is a thought provoking article...

Well the real issue isn't whether their son should be pulled off life support. The real issue is if they should be allowed to force other people to pay for it. That's what the lawsuit is really about. They are suing because they can't not afford to keep him on life support themselves, and the government decided that they couldn't afford to keep paying for a child who EVERY doctor who has looked at his case said will never recover when there are so many others who actually have a chance who need the money.

If these people win, others will die because the UK government doesn't have enough money to pay for them all. They pay a lot of money for this kids treatment and to keep him on life support. Enough to cover many many treatments for others, include cancer. Others will likely die if they win, and there is little chance that their son will survive if regardless.

If this was about them wanting to pay for his treatments out of pocket and the governing telling them they aren't allowed to which is what conservatives falsely claim, I would be on their side, regardless of my personal feelings about it. But that isn't what's going on. They are demanding that the government pay to not only keep him on life support, but also pay for the multi-million dollar experimental treatment that they think will somehow magically heal him, even though the doctors say there is a less than 1% chance of the treatment even allowing him to survive, and no chance of him ever recovering enough to have a normal or even semi-normal live. They want to take fundng from others' treatments to pay for their son's.

my daughter was 1. She was born with the tumor. It's a rare condition that keeps the brain from developing fully. The tumor was inoperable and it kept her heart and lungs from developing enough to work on their own.

Very sorry for your loss and respect for the terrible but brave decision you took.
However, I would like to point out this is not about funding, it is simply a matter of what is best for someone who cannot represent themselves.

You are simply wrong. They wanted to take him to the US which isn't forcing the UK to pay for his care; they wanted to take him home to die which isn't forcing the UK to pay for his care. The news reports today make it very clear that this is simply a life support decision when the dad yelled that the doctor was evil and left the courtroom after he said the latest testing results were sad. They have not "pulled their funding" as he is still on the hospital and still on life support and will be at least until Tuesday when the trial occurs.

Again this is not about funding.

Our doctors have explored every medical treatment, including experimental nucleoside therapies. Independent medical experts agreed with our clinical team that this treatment would be unjustified.

Not only that, but they said it would be futile and would prolong Charlie’s suffering. This is not an issue about money or resources, but absolutely about what is right for Charlie.

Our view has not changed. We believe it is right to seek the High Court’s view in light of the claimed new evidence.
