    I said main roots. For example: Russia was founded from the Vikings and is a political child of Rome (Constantinople in this case, Orient) and a spiritual child of Greece, Egypt and so on.

    Exactly. That's a reason why it is a European culture. But not only this. The USA is for example also a child of the philosophy of enlightenment. Without enlightenment no USA. This is independent from biological ancestors.

    It's difficult for a system with less possibilities to understand a system with more possibilities. Try to learn Latin for example and you will make this experience on your own. One problem of the USA is this what I call "dynamite fisher mentality". An extreme "dynamite fisher" will kill the life in a complete ocean only because he likes to eat a fish. He's completely interested in the only important thing which forces the world to turn around: to make money - ah sorry: to eat a fish. By the way: The world turns around without money too - but I'm not sure whether it will turn around without fish.

    One problem of the problem population growth is the hyperbolic function of this growth. The population growth is not only a parabola - the period of a reduplication sinks the same time - what makes this problem to a kind of explosion. The mathematics behind the population growth gives a premonition how horrifying the result could be in a coming reality.

    Additionally the ecological footprint of North America is very big. What North America is doing is not able to be the standard for the world. Your model "capitalism" is worthless in context with the problem "population growth". On the other side poorness is also a heating factor. So "we" (=all mankind) should not be poor - but we should also not waste our resources. We need good parameters for our economies. I don't think to do nothing (=capitalism) solves this and other problems. Capitalism could perhaps be a danger for the survival of the creation of god. And not to forget in this context: We are creation of god too. And I don't think it's a good idea to do suicide on reason of an amused laziness of superrich idiots. I will for sure not go to god in the end of time and tell him "Ahem ... father ... a moment please. They sent me to tell you we made something wrong - unfortunately we killed your living creation." ... For sure this I will not tell god. Someone else has to go to him in this case.

    That's nice.

    Next year I'm going to start seriously looking for a large pickup truck to tow a fifth wheel; probably a Dodge Ram 3500 but maybe a Ford 350. It will be 4X4 with a crew cab. The fifth wheel will be at least 28 to 34 feet long. I want to burn up all my wealth before the commies get it. ;)

    You have no clue about Germany. Oktoberfest was always a purely bavarian thing. We celebrate Kirmes and Erntedankfest. We also dont wear Lederhosen and never did so. Your words show absolute cultural ignorance and bad education. You know Bavaria and nothing else.

    It would be like i would say all americans walk around with cowboy hats and do rodeos.

    A foolish, immature thing to say since you know little, if anything, about me, my history or my knowledge of Germany. Forgivable because you were so young and the Soviets ruled your part of Germany for so long.

    As for "Oktoberfest" and "Erntedankfest", same frickin' thing, mein mausebär: Harvest festivals with lots of food and drink. All agrarian cultures have them.

    Then dont say we celebrate Oktoberfest, when we have a totally different festival in Thüringen called Kirmes. Oktoberfest is a purely bavarian thing.

    A worldwide Bavarian thing. Best greetings to Qingdao (China), Kitchener (Canada), Blumenau (Brasilia), Zinnzinnati (USA) - and there are much more places where people celebrate an Oktoberfest. The Oktoberfest Hannover (Germany, Lower Saxony) is the greatest Oktoberfest in Germany outside of Bavaria.

    "Kirmes" comes from "Kirche und Messe" (church and mass). "Kirmes" (Bavarian: "Kirchweih") is the celebration of the day when the building of a church was sanctified. And "Erntedank", "thanksgiving" is anyway a religious celebration. Your are an atheist from Hitlers and Stalins grace. So what do you celebrate at this days?

    A "Brett vorm Kopf" (="a board in front of the head"="a bad head") is perhaps more adequate in Thuringia, Prussian.

    Sure walk all Americans around with Stetsons and do rodeos. Whatelse to do? Okay - they visit us sometimes at the Oktoberfest and some of us are sometimes at rodeos. So don't be astonished to see a Stetson with Gamsbart in the USA.

    But this philosophy makes no one happy. Freedom is not be able to do whatever someone likes to do. Freedom needs responsibility. Without responsibility no freedom. Imagine I had the might to destroy this planet - a might wich we would need, if we would like to travel to the stars for example - and I would misuse this might and destroy this planet. Would I - or anyone else - be happy afterwards?

    A slight clarification. People should be free to do whatever they like. However, there's an inherent problem when the rights of two or more people collide.

    As this old adage states: "The right to swing my fist ends where the other man’s nose begins."

    Here civil government comes in to prevent bloodshed, adjust rights, and settle disputes. That concept is written into the US Declaration of Independence:
    "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed"

    The purpose of government is to resolve disputes between people exercising their rights but which conflict with the rights of others. Example. If I'm a factory owner and I dump waste into a stream which poisons it, thus causing harm to others, those others can seek justice via government. What government shouldn't do is dictate what consenting adults do to each other or themselves, how they should live, what they should think or anything else which doesn't cause direct harm to others. As we've seen on these forums, some say "well if a person commits suicide, it harms the family" as justification to deprive that person of their rights. This is wrong and should not be tolerated.

    What a nonsense. I remember in this context the poisoning of lots of people with plumbum (Pb). The company was bankrupt; lots of people did not even know that their psychological lethargy came from Pb. The costs for the health care and other social costs had to be paid from other people. Same with the gigantic costs to clean the poisoned areas. The companies earned money and made a good profit for decades - the communities and states had the costs. The current form of capitalistic economy privatizes profits (extraordinary high profits for fewer and fewer people) and naturalizes or communalizes costs.

    I said North-America is not able to set the standards for the world, because the ecological footprint of North-America is to big. I spoke not about that someone has the right or not to do suicide. Again: I spoke about a possible suicide of all mankind. That's the same word "suicide" but the situation - the context - is not comparable at all. And for sure no one has to tolerate anything what leads to a suicide of all mankind and/or an extinction of lifeforms on planet Earth and/or even within the whole universe, if life on Earth should be the only existing life at all. Life has in general the highest priority of all priorities. That's the reason why to respect freedom. But this is no reason to respect death and destruction in global dimensions.

    Even with my German heritage, I didn't know that. I bet few Americans do since the German festivals near me are always called Oktoberfest.

    It's a general colloquialism. The fact remains most cultures have an agrarian heritage and all of those cultures have a history of celebrating two things: spring and fall; planting/fertility and harvest. Our angry young comrade is just being young and angry.

    I'm not claiming anything. The historical facts regarding the outbrak of WW I are rather easy to find online. I'd stick to reliable pages.
    And, no, the German empire, despite its role in the events that led to WW I, didn't start the conflict.
