Opinion: What to do with Dreamers?

most Americans believe the DREAMERs should get citizenship.

 

And, I think they should be given what they have been promised, as long as they have been upstanding, otherwise lawful, and productive members of our society, but that we should not put ourselves in the situation where we need to make those promises to anyone else going forward.

 

I'm a liberal for the most part. I admit, I don't know what the answer is for dreamers. I think ejecting them from the country is wrong and would be a very evil move regardless of the legality of doing so. I also don't think full citizenship for all of them is right. Regardless of the fact that they didn't have control over coming here, that isn't a good enough reason to just hand them citizenship. Other people trying to immigrate here legally are paying hundreds and waiting up to a decade. Dreamers cut the line, so to speak and it feels wrong to let that stand.

But giving them some lesser form of residency with requirements leveled against them and restricted rights is also wrong. It already feels like there's enough distance between classes in this country in an economic sense. It would be bad to literally enshrine second class citizenry into law.

So I don't know what the answer is. Every choice seems really wrong.

As a Republican who does not support Trump, I agree with you with one exception. The wall is a waste of money and Trump has
done wonders to reduce incursions by 78%. Well done without an expensive wall. The wall is to satisfy Trump's ego and nothing more.

Criminal DACAs should be deported, along with uneducated DACAs and DACAs on welfare or those without jobs

Most of these so called dreamers came here when they were in their mid-teens or older.
Most of these so called dreamers can't speak or read English at a 1st grade level.

This is an Obama hoax that the 3.5 million Dreamers and their extended families would be productive citizens when the majority of them are draining the welfare coffers while working under the table - oh, and if they were allowed to vote, they'd all vote Democrat.

I'm not sure I get your drift. Only citizens have rights under our laws. Non-citizens have no rights beyond the obvious right to life - which is why it really sucks to be one. The people who steal into the country are not only criminal, they are stupid criminals. They have more rights in their own countries. Furthermore, there is no law for Dreamers/Daca - there is only a petition. Weak.

The Supreme Court's duty is to determine how the law applies. In this case there is no law. It is not for judges to make the law, that is up to congress.
