He argued that they won a concession from McConnell that he isn't requiring President Donald Trump to sign off before an immigration bill moves to the floor.

"For the first time, we have the majority leader move off of we can only move something if the President agrees," Flake told reporters.

Well, that's something from McConnell.... Probably not enough for most, but to me, that was an absolute deal killer... Hard to hear that the lead Senator won't move votes to the floor unless he has a presidential guarantee of success.... NOT the way it's supposed to work...

Sounds like Graham and Flake are now Yes votes.... Haven't heard that my 2 Senators (Warner/Kaine) are on board, and both of them have been in the Collins meetings...

    How does it go today??

McConnell, finally, is acting the leader not a lapdog of a co-equal branch of government.

As long as a creepy racist nobody named Steven Miller has Jello Donnie's ear,
this shutdown could last a few more weeks.

Think the shutdown is over.... I'm hoping Schumer got what he really wanted here.... wasn't a CR, wasn't DACA, wasn't CHIP...

He wanted McConnell to represent the Republicans in the Senate and not Trumpy the clown... If he can get that (and I'm not sure he will), then it's a win for all of us.... Senate - Do your job... Pass the best bills you can and if Trumpy vetos anything, that's on him...

    Govt is opening.

Dems will now double down on Dreamers and Chips, and they will give something on the Wall. Or they will shut the govt down again. Either or.

The shutdown has ended based on a promise by Republicans. Given that they are still lead by a total jell-o in the President, I don't see how they can garner much faith in that promise.

I'm glad if the government shutdown is over. It may have appealed to the Democrats' far-left base, but I think the majority of Americans were opposed to it. I hope this will also discourage this kind of grandstanding stubbornness in the future.

    Senate votes to end shutdown

    http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/370104-senate-votes-to-end-shutdown

The Senate voted Monday to reopen the government, ending a three-day standoff that left federal agencies shuttered and hundreds of thousands of workers furloughed.

Democrats agreed to advance a stopgap spending measure lasting until Feb. 8 after Senate Majority Leader (R-Ky.) promised to allow an immigration bill to reach the floor next month. The vote was 81-18.
In the end, this was the position Republican leadership had voiced from the beginning, and after Schumer shoved DACA into the Senate's version of the House's bill.

So what was the drama Democrat's orchestrated all about?

    You're thoughts.....

Ok, shutdown is over, Dems and Reps made a deal.

Moral of this tale; watch Trump continue to tweet insults to Dems regarding a deal he had nothing to do with. Or make some fake claim being the deal-maker.

Point is; Trump's obstructionist behavior in this saga has damaged and diminished his influence. (Even more, if at all possible.)

The number one clown has become a sidekick of the circus. Sad.

My opinion is that Schumer miscalculated the fallout, and assumed the Nation would follow his lead by blaming the shutdown on the President, and Republicans.

When that didn't play out, he was left holding the bag, and had to retreat.

Spotlighting illegals were responsible for a shutdown of government was a poor strategy, and it remains to be seen what harm that will do to the left's cause related to them.

Yep.....you are Right. Shows it for what it is. Chucky Cheese Schumer and the Demos blinked. Had to give in once they knew most of the country was blaming them.

Its still going to hurt them for the Nov Election.

Now, if someone can get McConnell to stop referring to the Dems as "my friends", perhaps more can be accomplished.

It ripped me when the window passed over the weekend, and McConnell came out to give his thoughts. He kept referring to the Dems as "my friends on the other side" etc..

WTH! They certainly don't refer to Republicans as "my friends".

Grow some Brass and respond in kind!!

Exactly Ryan was the same. Repubs need to wake up and smell the coffee.(not that urban ghetto coffee) The Demos aren't anybody's friends. With friends like them......who needs enemies.

I think that is very obvious to both McConnell and Schumer(who was never in any doubt about Trump's untrustworthiness).

The GOP has been pandering to its far right wing fringe, while avoiding adressing the immigration issues for nearly two decades now.

Trump created this crisis by announcing and end to DACA.

Democrats won't feel the pressure on this. The GOP will.

Trump's bungling and his attempts to take all sides of the issue mean that Congressional Republicans will have to take up immigration and risk pissing off the lunatic fringe in an election year.

Which is the last thing they had planned on doing.

    Actually, Schumer won.

The GOP will be forced to address DACA. Which they did not want to do.
