The rhetorical equivalent to "but....but....but..." I believe I can see rest of the afternoon clearly now....
We shall see...if McConell renegs, this shutdown will look like a walk in the park compared to feb 8th
Dems got 6 years of CHIP funding. No way that would ever pass as a stand-alone bill in a GOP Congress. The GOPs could've already done that and taken all the credit for it if it was something they really wanted to do. GOPs got nothing. They kicked DACA down the road for 17 days and gave up the CHIP bargaining chip.
81 to 8.....Schumer and the Demos miscalculated. Gambled and lost. Were taking to much heat from their own MS Media. So now capitulate. Trump just keeps on winning and winning.
I was thinking the same earlier today If the Dem's do not want to lose again in 2020 they need to get out there and start promoting some kind of message rather than relying on the anti-Trump wave to carry them.
OF COURSE they vote to end the shutdown - when the gov't is shut-down then they can't continue spending our money like they like to do!
Forced? how so? anyways addressing DACA this coming month was the plan before democrats threw their little childish temper tantrums and shut down the government nothing changed All democrats accomplished with their little temper tantrum was prove to the American voter democrats cared more for illegal aliens then our men and women in uniform this gave republicans great material for campaign ads this coming election
That's an interesting claim I've bolded above. It was the Republicans that passed immigration legislation in 1996. Democrats held Washington in 2009 and 2010, and chose to do nothing about immigration. Durbin tanked DACA when he chose to grandstand, and Schumer tried to hold the country hostage over the issue. I'm thinking there is a large degree of wishful thinking going on, however, I do think Dems plan to make it their singular issue leading into the Mid Terms in November.
Now for some reality. Retreat: Senate Dems Abandon Unpopular 'Schumer Shutdown,' Advance GOP Bill to Reopen Government..... Last night, Mitch McConnell offered Senate Democrats an off-ramp from their foolish, quixotic, unpopular Schumer Shutdown -- and with internal anxieties and divisions reportedly ratcheting up, they decided to take it. Five members of the minority caucus already broke ranks on Friday to vote in favor of the House-passed spending bill, meaning that a simple majority of the US Senate was on the record in support of the GOP's government funding bill. A number of the tiny handful of Republicans who voted with Democrats last week publicly lined up behind McConnell last night. To recap, the Republican-held House approved it, a majority of the Republican-held Senate, and the Republican president was prepared to sign it. Some liberals and spinmeisters reviewed these facts and still insisted that this shutdown was the fault of Trump and his party. The basic facts prove otherwise, however, so much so that even the Associated Press and New York Times had no choice but to appropriately assign blame where it belongs. Democrats' strategy to shut down the government in order to extract concessions on ancillary, non-budgetary political issues wasn't playing well, and looked even worse in light of Democrats' own passionately-argued stance against such tactics. So they've decided to accept the face-saving path to retreat offered by McConnell: But there's another twist, too. The GOP has argued, rightly, that a DACA/immigration compromise should be pursued on a separate track from government funding. What McConnell has worked out with his members is a commitment to allow an open process of amendments and votes on DACA and border security bills if no broad agreement is reached prior to February 8. He also said he'd move to address other outstanding issues too. One caveat: He said clearly that he will not allow these processes to move forward if Democrats shut down the government again. Here's his floor speech delivered shortly after the chamber reconvened this morning, setting the stage for the successful cloture vote (breaking the Democrats' filibuster) moments ago:.....snip~ https://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybe...chumer-shutdown-clears-senate-hurdle-n2437935 Is Shutdown Chuck Stuck? This is good stuff... Now if you can get the great #ReleaseTheMemo done, I'd have humor all week long...
Yep good stuff. Some liberals and spinmeisters reviewed these facts and still insisted that this shutdown was the fault of Trump and his party. Here is where you stand Rahl and have been standing all along. Out of touch with reality.
