How about a realization that dependence on the system itself was the root cause of the failure?

We have an education & child welfare system that utterly failed to appropriately address the child's mental health issues. We have a criminal justice system that completely failed to address multiple complaints. We have a local society that willfully ignored signs of danger.

But you want to blame federal firearm regulations.

Yeah, but just because it wasn't a gun death, doesn't mean the death didn't occur. Like I said, we're number one in drug overdoses too. Is gun regulation going to have a positive or negative effect on that? Do you know?

Wouldn’t a certain number of gun related suicides convert to drug related ones?

We’re concerned about death here, right?

Or is the concern just guns?

Liberals will just say that mass shooters will just bring a ladder with them.

Then you know what happens after that...ladder ownership regulations.

We are concerned about guns being used to cause death and we are concerned about drug-related deaths.

There is much blame to go around--FBI for sure, the school that was warned and did nothing, the governor who has done nothing to protect his schools after other shootings--all are culpable.

Frankly I don't see what any of them could have done to head it off?

The system fails kids in every country. The difference is guns. Gun regulation is not the only solution......but to say it can not be part of the solution is to deny the obvious. It's a form

We can reduce the number. A better system....not a perfect one

    Yes.
All other societies have the exact same problems you describe.
The availability of guns is the only difference.

    It's unignorable.

I get that you don't wish to be held responsible for another persons criminal actions.
I recognise the injustice in this.

But there is a greater injustice and it was wreaked on these dead children and their families and if you will not be part of the solution then you must take responsibility for being part of the problem.

Maybe all of them working in conjunction with each other would have a chance. But yes, it is a stretch. We have to batten down the hatches at our schools using Trump's wall money to finance school security.

Or we could just have gun control. Kids in Canada don't need armed guards at school

    There are no absolutes.
No perfect solution, no complete defence.

Only controls. Limitations. Sensible and reasonable precautions.

No need. We can just have gun control.

    Need more examples?

Australia, Britain, France Germany,Japan, New Zealand......etc

They see it but they have greater concerns.

As a shooter, I don't want a knee jerk reaction banning more of my guns. I've already lost one I loved due to a post school massacre ban.
And the arguments being made affect shooters negatively. It's not most shooters or gun owners that are actually doing anything harmful to others. and they rightly recognise that they are being targeted.
The nature of politics is such that it is death by a thousand cuts. A little bit more banned. Another type of weapon denied.
They can't give an inch because people will take a mile and they know it.

None of those countries have 2nd Amendment gun rights so it was easy to take their guns away

    But Americas are still free
