I thought the pro-gun side already presented a plan. Have some of the classrooms have secret lock boxes hidden in the wall (key and combination lock). A few of the teachers could be designated to deal with things if there ever was an incident.

Mass shootings are not common. But school shootings are (particularly some areas). My dad worked at a school in one of those bad neighborhoods and they had a shooting about every 2 years. (fyi, in the last 15 years the crime at that school is down from what it used to be, I'm just saying how it used to be)

 

Any of these countries as "diverse" as the U.S., by chance?

What I'm saying is these countries don't have low gun crime because of their strict laws. There are plenty of other countries that have strict gun laws and out of control gun crime.

By the way, the crime rates in many of these English-speaking and Western European countries you love to refer to are on the upward swing.
(mostly rapes and thefts though, not so much homicides, interestingly enough)

If "gun nuts" didn't care then they'd treat these incidents like lefties treats all the bad things that can be attributed to the left; by ignoring them.

Someone else already said it in this thread: If you looked at just the homicide rates of white middle class areas in the U.S. they are comparable to Western Europe.

(the "gun homicide" rate can be a bit misleading because many of these homicides were premeditated and would still have taken place without a gun, like an individual hiring someone else to kill their spouse, for example. Hmm, on that topic one might speculate that part of the reason for the higher homicide rate in the U.S. relative to Europe stems from the child support laws and more inequal incomes between the sexes as that relates to splitting assets in a divorce... )

 

Here's a compromise idea: what about just applying your restrictions on the sale of "assault-style" guns to those under the age of 21 ?

One little thing that should be pointed out to you though is that in certain very crime-ridden neighborhoods there are kids as young as 15 right now getting their hands on guns that are illegal for anyone to buy. Maybe that's not relevant here, but I'm just saying just because you pass a law doesn't make a problem completely go away. Something to keep in mind.
