It worked in Britain...it worked in Australia...and the number of mass shootings was lower while the Assault weapons ban was in place.

I doubt that you could get three people on this entire board to sit down and analyze research. If it don't fit their preconceived opinions, they don't want to hear it.

Example: Japan has nearly zero homicides by firearms... but they have more than TWICE our rate of suicide. Furthermore, Japan does not calculate murder like we do. If a man kills his wife and then himself, his death is not counted among the stats.

There are far too many extraneous factors that go into the equation:

We allow people on psychotropic drugs to roam freely on our streets. Do they do that in Britain? The U.S. consumes over 80 percent of the world's opioids. Why is that?

The U.S. consumes more SSRIs than any nation on the planet and virtually all of our mass shooters have been on SSRIs

You want raw numbers not actual research. It's too complicated to fit onto a bumper sticker.

I think gun control can work, it has in W Europe for example. But I don't think it can work in the US where government is too weak and guns too common. It would be about as successful as prohibition. There are limited actions that might work such as limiting the ability to make guns fully automatic, large capacity magazines and the like, but these will only have limited impact.

In order to make comparisons, you have to allow for differences. Do you have the critical thinking skills for such a discussion? Statistics are only as good as the situation they apply to.
