Cops Arrest 2 Black Men Sitting In Starbucks For ‘Trespassing’: Video

I would have used my verbal communication skills to come to a quick and sane resolution to the incident. That's what most experience and mature cops do in a situation like that.

Do you really think similarly dressed white men would have not been allowed to sit and wait for the rest of their party to arrive before ordering?

 

The cops showed up and said someone called and wanted them to leave, which they refused, so the cops told them they'd have to leave, which they continued to refuse. At this point, you either force them out or walk away. How do you make them leave if they refuse to leave?

 

Depends on the situation. According to the article, the two men walked up and asked to use the bathroom and were told that it was only for patrons and that if they weren't going to buy something, they couldn't use the bathroom there. Since they weren't going to buy anything, and didn't mention they were waiting for someone, they were asked to leave and refused to do so. If two white guys dressed the same way walked in with the same situation, I do believe they would have been told no, but I also think they would have most likely left if told to do so.

People, especially in the north, try too hard to walk on eggshells around minorities due to the current ills of society. There's absolutely no way I would think a Starbucks manager wanted them to leave for the simple fact that they're black. I think it was all a setup.

 

The cops failed to use proper judgement in this situation.

Personally, I would have pulled the Starbucks manager aside and explained to her how and why she is making a mistake and that she needs to re-think her position on this. I would have been successful too.

 

Perhaps. But we don't know anything other than the manager asking them to leave and then calling to cops to remove them. If they were asked to leave and didn't then they were trespassing.

No. I would convince them that I have come up with a reasonable and satisfactory conclusion. That's what effective and mature police officers do. They are able to gain cooperation in situations where people like you can't.

The job of a police officer is not to simply look for people to arrest. Policing is not just arresting.

 

It's obvious that many people have no idea how a police officer should conduct his or her duties. This is why we need mature, intelligent and confident people in these positions.

The fact that the police department felt the call require six officers also tell you something and I would love to hear the 911 call over this minor matter.

Now what the hell would the manager had to have said in order to get six cops repeat six cops to answer this call as to me as a layperson that sound more like a bank robbery call response not a refused to leave a damn coffee shop.

 

Maybe they wanted overwhelming force to avoid the expected stupid behavior that could likely follow?

The concept the way I understand it is being a keeper of the peace not someone who blindly follow the letter of a law book.

You know I find that when I am out and around while carrying a firearm I tend to walk must more lightly and avoid conflicts to a must greater degree then when I am not arm as the last thing I wish to do is used that firearm on another human being without it being absolute necessary.

I had always assume that such feelings are even stronger in good cops.

You mean blacks males are a higher risk of acting out then anyone else and the police when judging the needed force need to assume that more force is likely needed to deal with two black males then say two white males?

 

So, if Starbucks does end up paying a lot over this incident how stupid do other CEOs have to be to allow their companies to engage in similar behavior? Starbucks will close for one day to remind their employees how to treat everyone with dignity and respect. Most people will not tolerate any kind of Jim Crow behavior in modern day America. So if it looks like discrimination the offended party will call it out.

 

The guys should picket the police station.
