BFD. The Chinese government don't give two wits about its people. Citizens of the US however, vote with their pocket books. Trump is hitting where his supporters are hurting the most. Come election time, they won't forget.

Until it's your employer that shows you the door.

By the way, your tax dollars will go toward the welfare checks these people will get. But you know.....Murica is great again and all that.

Trump saved the lives of Canadian trees? That's your argument?

It's a very simply question as Earth Day approaches. Will Trump's action save trees?

Oh no, Trump is singlehandedly going to kill print media, dammit. That bastard! (The popularity of the internet paired with the environentally friendly trend to move away from the use of paper surely has nothing to do with it.)

Newsprint has been declining for years now because of the internet.

This has nothing to do with tariffs and everything to do with technology changing times.

Additionally, I think this particular paper has been struggling already. It seems like just a couple of years ago they bought out the competing local paper, hoping to merge their audiences and keep this one (the Times) afloat while they reduced the other paper's printing to weekends only, I think. They had big layoffs then as well, if I remember correctly, with that merger/shrinkage.

In other words, I think this ship has been taking on water for awhile.

    Edit to add:
My bad, I should have read the article first and saved the strain on my memory, lol. From the OP's own link:
The Tampa Bay Times has faced significant financial struggles over the past few years in the face of declining print advertising revenues and increasing online readership, according to the Journal.

The paper bought and closed rival paper Tampa Tribune in 2016 and announced a round of layoffs after the purchase. The size of the newsroom was halved between 2006 and 2015.

In Tampa Bay, a singular newspaper kills off a rival in a bid for its own future

Tash also said this week that some of the 265 Tribune employees would be hired at the Times, but that at least 100 were likely to lose their jobs. From what I’m hearing, only a handful from the Trib newsroom have been asked to stick around at the Times. The rest will be given two months’ severance.

Hmmmm they didn't care much about those jobs.

This only applies to Canadian mills accused of dumping uncoated coarse ground paper here.

The Left hates trees as much as they hate working class Americans.

So basically you prefer China because they "don't give two wits about its people"?

Yeah, living in a free country really sucks!

It's amazing they've lasted this long. I haven't bought a newspaper in years, and even that was only for collector purposes.

    Good.

We need less media and more journalism.

Yep the left wing modus operandi.
Let sarcasm fly right over your head.

PS. Al Gore didn't really invent the internet either.

Well when the right has such a penchant to blame everything and anything on the big bad evil lefties, sarcasm can be hard to pick out of a lineup.

Yes I know. The internet backbone was developed by two people working on a government grant.

Well, I haven't seen any rightwing posters "blaming" anyone here. I do see alt-lefties jumping to blame Trump and the tariffs though, when common sense and an unbiased analysis would indicate other factors were more influential.

Pffttttt...it's people like you who advocate to bring back mining jobs that hates trees. What do you think those mining company do with their fracking methods if not to commit deforestation and killing trees??
