A good idea, but it's one object moving under the speed of light. Using a transmitter of EM waves is easier since they are omnidirectional and move at or near the speed of light.
We're we not an "intelligent" species, in the stone age, before we even had those tools? We were. And "sufficiently advanced" is intentionally vague. Advanced enough to travel faster than light? Advanced enough to vilate the know rule of physics, and send signals to us faster than light? You are still trying to build the case that the lack of contact with alien species is evidence that they do not exist. It is not.
so was transmitting ones voice wirelessly at one time, bending space time or something else may one day be possible, the science doesn't rule it out
information may be able to get somewhere before the light would get there, thus seeming to be faster then light, but still within the laws of physics
Think about it for a sec....if we silly humans can use micro tech and build things on the atomic scale, likely a more advanced people would do so as well. Would in not make sense to send extremely light weight and virtually invisible probing devices to someplace like Earth if interested and completely avoid detection?
Sure, but the lack of that is no reason to suspect that other intelligence species do not exist. That would be very specious. And easily proven wrong, by pointing to an intelligent species right here on Earth that is not capable of such a thing.
Correct, but so are chimps, magpies and elephants. We kill people all the time, so I fail to see why any other creatures should be treated differently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-awareness Studies have been done mainly on primates to test if self-awareness is present. Apes, monkeys, elephants, and dolphins have been studied most frequently. The most relevant studies to this day that represent self-awareness in animals have been done on chimpanzees, dolphins, and magpies. Self-awareness in animals is tested through mirror self recognition. Animals that show mirror self recognition go through four stages 1) social response, 2) physical mirror inspection, 3) repetitive mirror testing behavior, and 4) the mark test; which involves the animals spontaneously touching a mark on their body which would have been difficult to see without the mirror. http://understanddolphins.tripod.com/dolphinbrainandintelligence.html An appropriate IQ test to measure dolphin intelligence does not exist. It is impossible to fully assess this animal's level of intelligence in this manner. But another way which has been suggested to measure intelligence is by determining the measure of relative brain size defined as the ratio between actual brain mass and predicted brain mass for an animal of a given size. This is called the "encephalization quotient", or EQ. This measurement suggests the higher the number, the greater the intelligence. The human EQ is 7.0. The EQ for great apes, elephants, chimpanzees and whales is about 1.8-2.3, meaning they have smaller brains for their body size than do humans. The dolphin's EQ is 4.2, the closest EQ ratio to the human than any other animal.
Are you female? Just curious. No need to answer. "Sufficiently advanced" means that they have to have the ability to send the signal and we have to be sufficiently advanced to receive it. A stone age culture may be intelligent, but they can't build a radio out of animal skins and stone.
You made no point. You asked if I were female. Just make your point, no need to be cute and shy here.
There is a theory that our universe is one of many universes and the gravity of other universes is causing the universe to accelerate in its expansion. There are other theories as well. Frankly, most of the universe is a mystery to science. No doubt about that. It just seems to me that gravity without mass or mass without matter is convenient but not really very logical. The idea of external universes exerting gravitational pull on our universe makes more sense to me than dark matter. As I said. You can believe what you like because we simply don't know.
They don't measure the gravity. They calculate it based the observation that the universe expands at an accelerating rate. There are other reasons that the universe might expand with acceleration. If you like the dark matter theory that's fine. You have plenty of company. Just not me.
Dark Matter is Dark because no one knows what it is, it is an explanation for observation and calculation with no basis in anything tangible. Basically Dark Matter is an excuse for ignorance and pointless in science beyond a name.
Huh? Yes they do. They measure the gravitational lensing of dark matter and the effects of its gravity on the movements of stars within galaxies. Looks like you have more to explain than you thought, in your alternate hypothesis.
The name and concept were created to "Explain" unknown reasons for gravity calculations that did not agree with accepted cosmological physics. It was necessary to make something that could be used as the reason for this much as the cosmological constant once filled a void in relativity theory...until it was no longer required. It is likely that something similar will become obvious in time.
giving yourself a name and introducing yourself by that name to others, yeah I'd call that self aware and sentient...feel free to disagree but that's where I am ...
definition in regards to animals.... Generally, in law, a sentient being is one with the faculty of sensation and the power to to perceive, reason and think. I'd say that describes a number of animals, apes, elephants, dolphins...
Okay, and that's fine. It would seem also to apply to insects. But you have just whutewashed the topic beyond recognition, at this point. Perhaps I should have started with the ideas of sapience and sentience together. You and I are on the same page, as far as recognizing the sentience of animals, and the fa t that they should have rights. But a recognize a special degree of sentience in humams that allows us to plan and recognize, truly, self and other, and to ponder ideas themselves. We are also on the same page that this varies by degree, not by kind, among animals.
