Ahhh I see the misunderstanding here. You seem to think I'm of the opinion that I can walk up to a pregnant woman wanting an abortion and tell her no. The reality is we are in full agreement on abortion. We both wouldn't want our wives to have one but we both agree that women have a right to have one up to a certain point in pregnancy and then society at large through laws have the right to regulate abortion and we both agree that current late term abortion laws in states that have them are a good thing. Glad we cleared that up and now I have to wonder why the woman in this discussion that says life begins at birth is always agreeing with you. Seems like you guys are on opposite sides if this issue.
Not my personal opinion but society's opinion. Society forces it's opinion on strangers all the time through laws and regulations. Why should abortion be any different? Society thinks that at some point it's murder or at least morally repugnant and has laws on the books regulating it.
Oh, I don't know if we're in full agreement. I think it would be wrong to overturn Roe V Wade....you?
I'm torn on that. I'm fine with the law but as a states rights person I don't think the feds should go over their heads and force states to abide by a federal law on this. Not a big issue with me though, I don't spend any time worrying about Roe Wade and if it stays or goes is not a big concern of mine.
I guess my feeling on that is in those two states a woman could just drive next door and get her abortion but I can understand your feeling on this too. Main thing is that if Roe Wade was overturned it would not end legal abortion in America as some people are trying to imply if not outright say. Most women wouldn't even notice and the few that did could just go to a neighboring state
Prior to Roe v Wade there were 29 states where abortion was illegal. I guess I'm not as confident as you that there would only be two states. And going to a neighboring state isn't all that convenient depending on where one lives. In some states it could be a many hours drive.
Well, no, being a man and never having to face a pregnancy, unplanned or otherwise, , you wouldn't care if women lost the right to their own bodies and became nothing more than breeding cattle.....but if they can take away one group's right to their own bodies they can take away rights from other groups......
Not my personal opinion but SOME OF society's opinion. That would be a much, much more accurate and honest thing to say. As the OP stated, his/her opinion is abortion is homicide. There are some of us in your society that consider war to be homicide. Some things we just have to live with huh?
I think the gripe many have with the Roe Wade is it's a court decision not a society decision. You may consider war to be homocide but elected officials make that decision and society elects them. If RW was overturned states could make the decision based on voters input and that would take away the argument that a court made a law which is exactly what happened in RW.
Prior to RW was a very long time ago and for better or for worse society has changed and become much more comfortable with early abortion.
NO, the court did NOT make a law in RvW….wrong again No, citizens do NOT get to choose rights by majority vote...wrong again...
If a woman decided to abort the day before delivery with a healthy fetus and she herself is healthy, I would definitely agree with you..,but that is a strawman argument. You’re creating an emotional scenario and it’s silly becuase it doesn’t happen. It’s like saying no one should be allowed to have a gun because they might be a mass shooter ..there’s probably more mass shooters
I'm giving the most extreme example for the sake of argument. I could just as easily say the week before, two weeks before, three weeks before. Infanticide very rarely happens but it does happen and there are laws against it. The same laws should apply pre birth. At some point it is indeed murder.
One does not understand the situation if one does not know the meaning of words like "infanticide"... No, it is NOT murder if the fetus has not been born. The fetus has protections after 23 weeks Your insistence that women by the MILLIONS are waiting through 8 1/2 months of pregnancy just for the fun of an abortion is beyond sanity...way beyond...
Your description of children in the womb with the three nouns you choose, zygotes, embryos and fetuses, are merely word usage in an attempt to devalue.....much like the n-word. The n-word was used successfully for centuries to keep black Americans in bondage just as now the words you use successfully opens season on children in the womb. Count on it....it will change. Your argument about "cant vote, own property, run for office, make any medical decisions, testify in court." also applies to many "mentally challenged" persons in various forms of assistance. <<< MODERATOR EDIT: FLAMEBAIT >>>
