This is pseudo intellectual navel gazing. While I agree that what he describes was part of it ... he ignores the "Anti Establishment" movement.

I doubt this guy predicted a Trump win ... in fact I would bet he was completely shocked. Micheal Moore on the other hand - after touring the nation doing town halls - Predicted a Trump win at a time when virtually everyone was convinced it was in the bag for Hillary.

Moore stated that the people did not much care for Trump - it was more that they wanted to throw a moltov cocktail into the establishment.

The anti establishment movement has only grown bigger (on both sides of the fence) since the election.

Rather than couch this as "bailing on democracy" ... We should first examine how the Establishment (which is both Red and Blue)- and the nation with it- has bailed on the founding principles.

In addition - there is no functional democracy without a fair and free media. We now live in a propaganda state and this is obvious to anyone paying attention.

The canaries in the coal mine of totalitarianism have been screeching for decades. We have gone from the "land of the free - home of the Brave" .. a land founded on the slogan "give me liberty or give me death" .. to the land of the quazi totalitarian nanny police state and home of those on their knees begging to give up individual liberty over a risk of harm that is 400 times less than the risk of harm from walking.

"Liberty or Death" is now "It is our Patriotic duty to give up Liberty".

The Founders created a system that was supposed to limit the power of Gov't. For 200 years the Gov't has been trying to get that power back and it has succeeded.

The limitations to Gov't power that were put there to prevent totalitarianism are mostly gone. At the same time the raging masses are restless. Wealth inequality has increases to the threshold of pain for many .. and it continues to increase.

It is no historical secret that at such times the gullible raging masses often turn towards an Authoritarian Savior. This is happening at a time when the limits go Gov't power are nearly gone.

 

Don't kneel during the anthem or the president will make sure you are punished..

 

This is how Democrats killed Democracy.

 

regulations have nothing to do with people voting on local issues.
