We're all DNA, but is Race more DNA, or more Environmental when talking about Racial Evolution?

    Manure!

    Something in the DNA gives an eyelid that Asian look.
    Something in the DNA programs bigger lips.

    Height. Bone density. Some things are in the epigenome.
    Non DNA inheritance as well as environmental.
    Asian eyelids, bigger lips, that is in the DNA.

    Another case of PC invading Science.

    We're all DNA, but is Race more DNA, or more Environmental when talking about Racial Evolution?

    I'd like to know of racial evolution that does not involve DNA.

    The East Asian EDAR allele, 370A, which emerged in central China ∼30,000 years ago, is associated with an increased number of active eccrine glands in the Han Chinese (Kamberov et al. 2013). Other visible effects of EDAR are thick hair and small breasts, which make Asian women more attractive for men. This is similar to blue eyes and blond hair in Europeans, reflecting the fact that the human population had dispersed from its African homeland and faced different challenges that led to genetic adaptation on each continent.

    that isn't possible, everything biological involves DNA...unless I misunderstand your question....

    sexual attraction is cultural and individual, I'm sure not all asian men prefer women with small breasts(my asian bro-in-law prefers big) I as white euro prefer small...what men and women find attractive changes over time, in the 50's n american men preferred big voluptuous women, the 90's saw scrawny women gain favour, now very athletic women with big butts is the preference...we can't overlook sexual selection in an isolated population as strong driver for how we appear...

    true but similar challenges can be solved with different solutions...the people of the high Himalayas, Bolivia and Ethiopia have each adapted genetically to high altitude in a different manner....

    The very fact that we can mate and have offspring with any of the "races" you cite anywhere around the world, is proof there's no substantial differences in our DNA. If there was, we couldn't do that.

    Substantial is a qualifier.
    You are looking for different species to be substantial differences.
    How about malaria resistance and survival in an endemic malaria area? Isn't that "substantial"?

    I'm not sure that's DNA related, are you? Couldn't that simply be a immunological response?

    Malaria resistance is closely related to blood types. Type O prevents the malaria parasite from causing a severe form of the disease and the non-O blood groups emerged as significant risk factors for life-threatening malaria.

    Only in some individuals do malaria episodes progress to severe life-threatening disease, while in the majority the episodes are self-limiting. This is partly because of host genetic factors such as the sickle cell gene.


    The sickle cell gene is caused by a single amino acid mutation (valine instead of glutamate at the 6th position) in the beta chain of the hemoglobin gene. Inheritance of this mutated gene from both parents leads to sickle cell disease and people with this disease have shorter life expectancy. On the contrary, individuals who are carriers for the sickle cell disease (with one sickle gene and one normal hemoglobin gene, also known as sickle cell trait) have some protective advantage against malaria. As a result, the frequencies of sickle cell carriers are high in malaria-endemic areas.


    Most earlier studies of the relationship between sickle cell trait and malaria were cross-sectional, and therefore some important data relevant to the protective effects of sickle cell trait were missing. CDC’s birth cohort studies (Asembo Bay Cohort Project in western Kenya ) conducted in collaboration with the Kenya Medical Research Institute allowed us to investigate this issue in depth. We determined that the sickle cell trait provides 60% protection against overall mortality. Most of this protection occurs between 2-16 months of life, before the onset of clinical immunity in areas with intense transmission of malaria.

    type O with malaria regions, europe isn't represented in the malaria map but it should be it wasn't always malaria free.

    A means of NOT DNA racial inheritance was the idea.

    I find the epigenome fascinating.
    DNA is just a dumb hard drive.
    Epigenome is operating the keyboard.
    The epigenome is NOT DNA
    and does confer some inheritance, such as
    if your grandmother faced famine as a child,
    a trait of being efficient with calories and tendency to getting fat occurs.

    Likewise moving to a cold climate and a population becoming shorter and rounder.

    It lends some credibility to the Sovietsky geneticist who believed in environment, did his experiments
    and totally dissed in the West for disagreeing with Western, Mendel type inheritance.

    Something has happened to the Dutch population.
    A few hundred years ago they were the shortest Europeans.
    Today they are the tallest.
    Their DNA hasn't changed.
    Their Epigenome has.

    Not one molecule like DNA but several.
    Influences may be passed down from Grandma to current environmental factors.

    As an embryo you had gills.
    Something told the DNA to make gills
    and something told the DNA to abandon gills.
    You still have the DNA for gills.
    Something is the Epigenome.

    When you have it figured out, please share.

    So...it seems to me that some control over the aging could be possible. I dont know about things like pulmonary disease but it may be possible to have clear, smooth skin as we age.

    we have a lot of control if we start good life style choices from the time we're born, better food selection, regular exercise, stay away from drugs...
    smooth skin- stay out of the sun/wear a hat, sun screen lotion...helps also not to be white, we wrinkle easy
