I can speak of multiple acts of betrayal against the American people by elected American politicians up to and including the president relating to their deep financial connections to Saddam

I personally remember VIP Americans travelling to Baghdad to bow and scrape and to be photographed hand-shaking Saddam with big grins during the days of the G H W Bush regime. People like SecState James Baker III. Back then, despite being an awful tyrant, he was America's trusted friend. Back then it was, as now, a case of supplying credits to Saddam so he could buy American military equipment at a discount - even as war approached.

    http://www.911truth.org/osamas/gonzalez.html

We Brits also supplied Saddam with a literally a trainload of 155mm sabot discarding anti tank shells shipped aboard the Marine Vessel Tara which arrived days before the British tank formations invaded Iraq during Operation Desert Storm.

    1) There are not 155mm sabot discarding anti tank shells anywhere in the world. If there are please supply evidence of their existence.
    2) Not a single major weapons system used by the Iraqis was a U.S. built or U.S. supplied system. Virtually all Iraqi weapons were Soviet built with some French thrown in the mix.
    3) Saddam Hussein was considered the "lesser evil" compared to Iran and was thought to be a valuable counterweight to Iranian influence in the region. There is nothing wrong with the U.S. using one tyrant against a greater danger the same way we backed Stalin against Hitler. Even Henry Kissinger himself in reference to the Iran/Iraq War (echoing Churchill's opinion of the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union) said "Pity they both can't lose".

    4) You consider a link to a 9-11 TRUTHER site to be evidence? They won't even let you post that kind of stuff at the Democratic Underground!!!!

Yes, I suppose we are all dreamers.

As to pointless wars, there are pointless wars and there are wars brought under fraud, and considering the profit motive and other qualities mentioned by Ike in 1961, it's possible that from the perspective of a war profiteer, there is no such thing as a pointless war.

My mistake. They were 115mm sabot discarding anti tank shells that the Thatcher government sold to Saddam.

The US supplied Saddam with all sorts of so called "dual use" chemical and biological weapon technology. The supply of dual-use materiel was a fig-leaf arrangement to protect America's cynicism as they knew Saddam would use chemical weapons - and he did. The Riegle Report will be of use to you (HERE).

You need to read the back story of the Banco Nazionale del Lavoro financing package to Saddam.

Not so lesser in fact. The US and Brits supplied weapons to both Iraq and Iran during the 1980's. Besides that however, it was the US that helped Saddam seize power in 1963. Saddam was on the CIA payroll too it seems (HERE).

I don't much care which envelope a letter comes in as it gets tossed away. The fact is that it's the letter that is the important thing and in this case it is the article that is significant not the website that carried it.

Being "on the payroll" in no way means that the CIA controls someone or for that matter even has influence over their actions. The CIA pays many people (see, on the payroll) simply for information and sometimes simply to "keep our oar in".

"dual use" means that things have fully legitimate nonmilitary uses. Like it or not, Iraq even during war time still had to use pesticides, fertilizer and even needed disease cultures. Also note during the time period you mentioned, to get a sample of a deadly disease from the U.S. government all ANYONE had to do was mail in a form. Nothing sinister or illegal required.

"dual use" items are NOT weapons. You can't unload them off a ship and then mount them on launchers and drive them to the front.

You're nearly 20 years off on when Saddam Hussein came to power in Iraq.

    Not at all

The world has made great strides thanks to 700 years of white Christian leadership

Though ultimately our entire civilization is now in decline

No the UK is doing what it's supposed to be. Positioning itself with the only true friend and away from the risky European plains at the times of uncertainty that apparently is to be evolved into an imbalance...

It is even much stronger and geopolitically speaking it does have all the excuses and reasons to do what it used to be limited of doing back in earlier administrations...
Thanks to Lode Star and his decisive crew.

Oh sure it's crumbling that's why Zhirinovsky and friends often prefer having Frappes for their hangovers at Starbucks in Moscow. After a small chat about the payments that haven't been made so far they usually drive their German made luxury sedans and British made SUVs (Range Rovers rock) to travel down to Kremlin, to see Lavrovs puppeteers to further crumble the US-UK order... You're so freakishly right...

I don't know how to react to this now. Help me, should I pitty you because of your suffering from narrowmindedness? Do little sarcasm because you're ignorant of history of the American economics? Or just be harsh on you as hell because you once again dared to test me in this way?

Oh please just help yourself and ask Lee about the info you seek Zebrovsky... He'll at least know ways to provide you with my contacts. He don't need my consent anyways.
Hit me with them mail.ru, or tut.by extensions properly...

Barman huh? Reminded me of my West Ham days... what could possibly be more British than calling the guy behind the counter a buwman? I love UK even the skies are always gray... Depressive cold and real as death...

But why did you pick occupations from letter "b"? I think I can see your pattern there; began the sentence with "keep", and when it came to exemplify to strengthen the remark you went with what crossed your mind first which of course was reflective of the started pattern by carrying a partial word from a previously stated word (keep, hence the bookkeeper). Because your brain is processing in average depths it doesn't bother to create something out of known patterns. That's the very reason the following occupations you came up with reflected the cheap pattern and started with letter "b" (Barman and Baker/ Baykuh)

Hmm? Short-sighted thinking, but I don't doubt that there are those whose minds are that stunted.

Social programs are bankrupting America. Defense is only a tiny part of the budget.

I suggest a compromise. Transfer social spending responsibilities to the states and bring our troops home until our allies are willing to pay for their protection and we decide it's also in our best interest.

What are you talking about ? The world went backwards under white Christian leadership. 700 years ago they were burning witches at the stake and for having ideas that conflicted with church dogma in the slightest way. Galileo was persecuted and imprisoned - house arrest - for claiming that the earth revolved around the Sun by these clowns.

Illiteracy was encouraged and knowledge discouraged shortly after the Church got power under Constantine in the 4th century AD. Shipbuilding was forgotten. They did not relearn that technology for 1000 years. The Muslims advanced technologically and kicked Christian butt because of the ignorance fostered under "Christian Leadership"

It was only after the Church lost most of its power that things started to improve.

Talk about historical revisionism on steroids.

Capitalism- especially unrestricted - tries to stifle free and fair markets. That's the nature of the beast - Capitalism is about maximizing profit. Free and fair markets are a obstacle to that objective.

"Getting what one earns - the value of one's labor" is another obstacle to maximizing profit.

Individual liberty is another obstacle to maximizing profit.

Extreme Capitalism and Extreme Socialism ( communism for example) end up at the same place on the spectrum. In both cases you have a few elite owning most resources and means of production.

Again. If, for example, Russian hackers say that you are a bad person, only on the basis that they needed money, therefore he can rob you and it will be considered a good deed?

Why do the CIA put them on the payroll? Because they agree to become agents of influence. And, of course, things change - including Americans nationals who worked for the CIA directly and later whistleblew on criminality. Meanwhile, another foreign leader, Manuel "Pineapple face" Noriega, was also on the CIA payroll but then stepped over the mark of what was allowed by the US and likewise got invaded and removed from power by the US.

I have to say that you strike me as a person who will overlook reality in order to maintain your very personal America-are-the-good-guys perception. Anything that damages this rose-tinted prejudice of yours is to be denied, irrespective of the reality, by adhering to extremely narrow intellectual formulations (i.e., your below that weapons are only items that can be unloaded off a ship and driven to the front. It's utter hogwash).

As you very well know dual-use exports can and do become weapons. That's the entire point of supplying tyrants like Saddam with them. They are designed to provide the fig-leaf of responsibility which is really absent. And yet with the US it's fig leaf strategy with their "friend" Saddam has been torn away by the actualite. The US supplied the necessary components to enable Saddam's scientists to make chemical and biological weapons against Iran and his own people and he used them too --- and then later (under Poppy Bush) invaded him because he allegedly had those chemical and biological weapons that the West had helped him obtain in the first place. Like a hooker claiming to be a virgin, it doesn't wash on any level --nand I have to say that your arguments provide a huge insight into your psychology that you actively support the hooker's elevation to sainthood.

You didn't read the CIA report I linked did you? Again your narrow interpretation keeps you hidebound.

    From the linked CIA report:

"US intelligence helped Saddam's Ba`ath Party seize power for the first time in 1963. "

Give me a break about the White man's burden and the Onward Christian Soldiers rhetoric...

Some of the great strides of the civilised West have seen some of the worst human abuses the world has ever seen. As always, people like you ignore and blank out the shadow side of the many advances in civilisation brought about by the West. For example, a great many of the scientific advances derived from Arabic knowledge wholly unknown to the West until the Crusades. And a huge volume of spiritual knowledge and practises came from ancient India and China and ancient Egypt.

It's hardly a triumphal march of the white man's "burden" is it.

Meanwhile, the West has specialised in bringing the planet close to the point of irretrievable destruction, both weather-wise and weapon-wise due to its blind greed and crazed lust for power.

It would if it helped reduced the support for international terrorism. However, in my case, it would not.

Being honest with oneself about the crimes of government does not mean one's mind is stunted.

However, kidding oneself about government crimes and human weakness might very well suggest a stunted mind.
