The Dem president in early 2021 may well declare the GOP a national emergency and take appropriate actions against it.

This edifice of extraordinary powers has historically rested on the assumption that the president will act in the country’s best interest when using them. With a handful of noteworthy exceptions, this assumption has held up. But what if a president, backed into a corner and facing electoral defeat or impeachment, were to declare an emergency for the sake of holding on to power? In that scenario, our laws and institutions might not save us from a presidential power grab. They might be what takes us down.

Relax, Trump can't pull a Hitler. In fact, the moment he tries anything remotely like it, the impeachment will be filed in a nanosecond, voted accordingly and he'll be out of office.

    Hmmm!

That could be a litmus test for future POTUS candidates that would be worth applying.

Will candidate X exercise their own self interests or the best interests of the nation in a state of emergence?

It gives a good insight into the character of the person running for office and it already knocks out a couple of the Dems who have thrown their own hat in the 2020 ring as far as I am concerned.

Harris, Sanders among the other nuts. I'm convinced we're going to elect a bad president in the 2020 elections. It just depends on how bad.

14,542 Americans were killed in firearm homicides in 2017 according to the CDC [1], a 50 year high when accounting for population density. 2018 numbers are not currently available but there is expected to be another increase.

1,886 illegal immigrants were arrested for manslaughter in 2017 according to ICE [2], a number that is decreasing along with overall illegal entry. Since 2/3’s of illegal immigration is through visa overstays or at checkpoint crossings we can assume the wall preventable figure would drop that number to 628 at 100% effectiveness — which it will not have.

Close to 500,000 Americans die every year from treatable illnesses

So half a million from poor healthcare (ignored by the right)
15 thousand from guns which doesn’t include accidents (ignored by the right)
But 628 (holy Jesus it’s a national emergency, shut down the government and waste billions)

For reference bees and peanuts kill more Americans than illegals every year — trumps wall will also not do anything to the millions that are already here. Coulter was right, the national emergency is trump

As a side note, I feel bad for the parents — first that they lost a child and second that they are being manipulated by this embarrassment of a man.

Lol...Ask the Parkland, Columbine, Sandy Hook, etc., etc., etc., moms whether your obese orange hope or his supporters give a flying **** about the national emergency of gun mayhem in the US.
There have been at least 288 school shootings in the United States since January 1, 2009.
That's 57 times as many shootings as the other six G7 countries combined.
    Stop polishing turds for trump.

Gillibrand and Gabbard both appear to be the type who will say anything in order to get elected which makes them more self centered than focused on the best interests of We the People IMO.

This is simply not based in, logic, considering the most colossal legislations throughout USA, history, usually started out as Movements via some citizens being angry over some wrongful death(s) or mistreatment.

Angel Mons are doing the very, exact thing, which Black Dems did to be victorious with their 60's Civil Rights Movement. According to your, logic, then the JFKs and RFKs were just using them as political stooges, eh?

That's not the same. What these people are doing is called, seeking asylum, although clearly it is ostensibly.

Read the Geneva Convention rules, on how they are supposed to be treated when they show up at your border.

so under a dem president that can be a national emergency too

course Trump has to actually be able to do this to set a Precedent and I think he will fail

Since they're bypassing Mexico, they're violating the same rules on Asylum. But I think this is a point to be made to the UN: No nation should be obligated to host non-national parties in their nation because of some unfortunate situation in their country. That's an undue and unfair burden on the hosting country. That applies to all countries, not just America.

Actually the left does not view it that way. They see things as tho Trump is correct that there is a crisis, only if, the violent/criminal illegal immigrant was the sole lone immigrant who ever sneaks across the border's desert.

And even though I do want that wall built, the left still has a legitimate point which Trump's logic will never be able to transcend.

Because Trump strategy, is all wrong.

He should consider focusing exclusively on the immigrants who crossed the border, legally, and became legal residents and naturalized citizens. The ones who needed no Dream Act. Yes et those people be "the voice" supporting the wall. The Dems would not have a strategy to contend with that.

As it is, the Dems currently can contend with Trump's wall and defeat Trump's wall, because Trump keeps talking ONLY about keeping out violent/criminal illegal imms. Yes while simultaneously creating a physical barrier for keeping out all illegal imms incl. peaceful loving illegal imms who also sneak across the desert.

Humans can see this. And It makes him look deceitful, so I wish he would switch his style up, for 2020.

I don't care if they're peace-loving or otherwise law-abiding. They are illegal. That'd be like saying "Please keep the shoplifter out of jail, other than his shoplifting, he's never committed a crime!" It makes a mockery of having a law to begin with, or a border.

Crossing the border is a MISDEMEANOR, not a felony!

Should you be incarcerated as a criminal for jaywalking?

I don't care if it gets a slap on the wrist. It's a crime. And that said crime has resulted in financial and social challenges for the union as a whole. Also, by not enforcing the law it's like discriminating against legal immigrants patiently waiting through the system.
