WTF is wrong with Hollywood?

Exactly. The people into that have already paid the Hollybrood their money at the theater, netflix, redbox, roku, etc. They're already square with them.

So why waste time giving them your time for something that really concerns only them and Madison Avenue. You're not welcome to attend. No reason to watch.

It was illegal for them to out themselves as gay for most of their lives - and surely would have killed their careers. Not much of a choice, was it?

My point is.. why have your primary identity based on your sexuality? I don't run around identifying myself as a heterosexual, I identify by many other things first. I've had other friends inquire about the sexuality of other friends and my reply is "Why, you looking for a date?" It shuts them up and let's them know it's really none of their business.

 

Problem is that even hanging a photo of a gay partner could have gotten you fired from a career in the armed forces until a few years ago. That's something you would have never even given a second thought as a heterosexual. You can hold your wife's hand in public but there are still states where that can get you legally evicted from your rental if you're gay. Normal everyday activities for heterosexuals are seen as "flaunting it" or "pushing it on us" if a gay person does it.

 

Well both orientations have their advantages.. don't they?

 

What can a gay person do that a heterosexual can't?

 

The problem with Hollywood is that they are in their own little bubble world and out of touch with the majority of Americans and couple that with their quest to push politics while not acknowledging that doing so loses audience.....the future isn't bright for the industry.

 

You are kidding me, right? They can skip foreplay, as a matter of fact, they can get sex by hanging out in bathrooms, parks and spas, they can have a sugar daddy, they don't have to worry about making port if they are sailors, there's a .. etc.. etc.. got a client.. but I'm pretty well done here.

 

So you've got a thing for women who ONLY look like Scarlett Johannsen? You do know that she was just recently cast as a transgender man for an upcoming film, right?

 

Once more, Hollywood taking food out of the mouths of minorities.... What's next? Tom Cruise as a Chinese guy?? (oh wait..... )

 

There has to be a balance....between divorcing from the old Hollywood standard of having white folk portray other races & ethnic groups, and not having ONLY people who fit EXACTLY the racial, ethinic, sexual orientation, economic or social caste.

out of touch with your world maybe, there's an entire other world out there that won't agree with you...did you have issues with entertainers and athletes pushing religion on you "I'd like to thank god for this win!" ...or is just with people whose politics you disagree with?

I doubt the entertainment will lose any appreciable audience over their progressive political agenda, entertainers have always been on the leading edge of social and politcal progress and that's never going to change...

 

I gotta feeling you've already got one foot in the grave and you won't be with us much longer either

 

Hey, if you don't like movies today, stay home; they cost a lot more than a quarter now and they don't even have newsreels any more

There are lots of channels that have nothing but old movies and even tv shows

 

Makes one miss the old Studio System
with writers, actors, directors and all sorts of technical people contracted to the studio.
No free agents.
Casablanca and Gone With The Wind were literally filmed with scripts being delivered just before shooting. Casablanca was filming before the story had an ending.
A dynamic for creative tension.
Today, everything is planned years before filming. No creative dynamic.

I have this dream of a studio system resurrection where persons can
chose to be Free Agents or contracted to a studio.

The old 'uns are the best. I watched a BBC-sponsored film a few nights ago called The Goob (sic) and it was the most boring, nonsensical, badly-acted, and certainly the most vulgar film I've ever watched. And 'Hollywood' movies aren't any better, especially in the vulgarity and nonsensical stakes. 'thought provoking' they ain't?
