What, exactly, is socialism? Again this discussion seems necessary.

That is not what I said. I said that socialism can only exist by force. It must crush the rights of the individual in order to enforce its version of order for the masses.

The reason our economic system has devolved from a free market to a fascist system is the introduction of socialism. How much would your paycheck increase if you did not have to pay federal and state income tax? Now add in social security and double it, because your employer pays an equal amount that could be going into your take home pay.
If you want a single payer system fine, just make sure I am not taxed for it.

That would not be popular with the masses. It would be very undemocratic and get little support.

So do you think that banks would type out their banknotes on mechanical typewriters and deliver them by pony express?

So banks would use a Gutenberg press to produce their banknotes. This would be more cost efficient than magnetizing a debit card for a new depositor?

Businesses care. Do you know how much it costs to produce a banknote with a Gutenberg press? Do you know how much labor it takes. A debit card can be magnetized in 1/10 of a second by a teller.

You are living in the past with your 7,000 different paper banknotes. Who the eff uses paper in this day and age?

Debit cards, Venmo, Paypal, Apple pay, etc.

And for those small purchases, a pocket full of coins.

That's how a free market in money would operate.

It seems silly. Why would any parent send their child out to work in a sweatshop to have her limbs blown off when he could otherwise be at home safely playing X-Box. Seems like a silly choice to me. Were parents just stupid back then?

A great many families survived because of the earnings of their children as adults were paid next to nothing. Thus, it wasn't a choice but a necessity.

Right wingers today have the luxury of making good wages, ironically because of the reforms brought about by socialists and unions. How lucky they are, today. But if we ever went back to those socio-political climes, you can bet they will be clamoring for the return of those reforms.

So families earned next to nothing, but now every kid in the family has an iPad. How did that happen?

Yeah, killing surplus pigs really helped get iPads into hungry kids' hands.

The right has an idealized "perfect picture" of what it would be like if only we could eliminate all regulations on businesses. They don't want to remember we were there once and it produced what you showed.

Would you want the kids to be working in a factory or on a farm?

You are correct. They believe in the utopia Reagan dreamed of when he said there should be no government regulation of industries (that is, unless they are part of the military industrial complex). In their mysticism, they believe it would be an ideal world if this existed. But those of us who live in the world of reality know better. Those historic photos are incontrovertible proof that we, not they, are correct.

Put it this way - if it wasn't for his reforms, you and all else would be wearing swastika armbands, that is if we survived the war his enemies created.

Are you referring to his policy of killing and burning animals at a time when people were starving?

Beyond you I suppose would be to admit you consider a very narrow bridge of information that shapes your views. No offense, but you have no idea WTF you're talking about. There are states w/o an income tax, like New Hampshire, but their property tax rates are some of the highest in the country. States like Texas, Tennessee & Florida have some of the very lowest average pay wages in the nation. Overall, my understanding is that your effective tax rate has been going to since about the mid-1950s. Gashing the tax rate for the top or multinational corporations hasn't rendered the outcomes they said it would. Programs like Social Security, it isn't an entitlement based upon being human or a citizen. You only get what you pay in. However, as is with Medicare, those trust funds ran high surpluses for decades but were pillaged by every administration. Can you say for certain you wouldn't have agreed with what those funds were actually spent on? If what they did was necessary or worthy, then you would've been taxed additionally anyway or gone w/o.

You should look into the Agricultural Adjustment Act.

So stupid to reduce the supply of food while people are starving.
