GM tells Trump that they and the UAW will decide their business

The plant owners are evil and UnAmerican Globalsts. They wish to give all the jobs now held by Americans to little yellow people in China so as to make Trump look bad. They should be arrested and imprisoned, then shot.

Trump should nationalize the company to keep the jobs here, like his obvious heroes in this area, Presidents Maduro and Chavez of Venezuela and Comrade Stalin of the USSR

 

I think its very important to keep manufacturing in the US

However if GM wants to tie its future to china instead of America let them leave

But slap a 40% tariff on cars they import to the US made on china

 

They already are.
GM are not a producer of vehicles, they are an assembler, and most of the parts they assemble are made in China.

 

But now they dont even want to design or assemble in the US

 

I'd love to agree with you. I really would.
The problem is the car makers aren't getting better with Trump's "help."
That's a tough one to deny, but I'm sure if anyone can do it you can.

China can build anything after we show them how to do it

And GM knows how

After that the chinese built imports will begin showing up the Chevrolet showrooms at a lower price than other makes

 

We bailed out GM to save American jobs and they repay us by moving jobs to China. Fine with me if they go broke.

 

If you take jobs from Americans that bailed you out to save American jobs you have failed.

Okay. So sales are down for the model of vehicle being produced at a specific plant. What do you do?

 

Build a better vehicle that people want to buy maybe?

 

Not such a great business plan...I'm thinking it might take a wee bit of time for development. And all the while, paying people to make vehicles that don't sell?

Trump really isn't coming from a place of knowledge or strength on this one. The product lines he closed were not produced in his own facilities - he outsourced them. So the companies lost a line - not a facility. And the rest are manufactured in China, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia

 

Only a Democrat could argue that building a quality product that people want to buy is " not such a great business plan".

 

Ignore the reality if you wish. How long, do you suspect, it takes to develop a new model of vehicle? And while it's in development, what is to be done with the workers of the facility?

So your answer is send their jobs to China permanently? My answer is move as many as you can to other lines through attrition and temporarily lay off as many as necessary until you make a better product people want to buy. Along with this their likely needs to be some union concessions to make the new improved product more cost competitive.

 

Good example of how bailing out a bloated company with unrealistic union contracts and an inferior product was a bad idea. Lefties. What can you do with them?
