I'm certainly no expert and largely working from what was in the OP article. It refers to a report that explicitly states he is radicalised yet there is nothing about any efforts to deradicalise him. If they believe he is radicalised (correctly or not), not trying to do anything about that would strike me as a failure on their part. I've no idea what angle you're coming at this from so you'd have to explain that further.

 

So? Commit an act of treason against the United States and you can lose your citizenship, period. I fully support our gov't in that regard.

I followed that story closely for the several years it ran. He was utterly abused by the system, and he was made a political argument by Bush & Co in the war fever that held the nation post 911. I forget the tiny details right now, so your criticism is fair--I haven't studied it in years. The US kept him locked up in a Conex container despite his citizenship, and I think he was wounded during that time.

As a side note, how does one become radicalized? How is that term defined? How then does one become deradicalized? It's a misleading term meant to advance political theater.

As others have mentioned, he took no actions against US troops. In short, he was an ideal young man caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. As young men often do, he was searching for his place in life, and wandering essentially. He came from a wealthy family and was apparently curious about Islam.
