What he is opposing is the idea that to qualify for unemployment, you have to be let go by your employer. His argument that in an "at will" state, he should be able to quit or elect not to work and still get unemployment.

So back in HS if we spent all our lunch money on dank weed ... we went to the closest big box grocer and ate off the shelf, and produce displays. I 'd even have 'em slice me some fresh deli, and make a sandwich in the bread aisle. ::

 

I confess to eating a few bags of chips while grocery shopping back in those dark days. Fig Newtons too..........hit the spot!

 

In Tokyo in the 80's, the only way working class Western backpackers could afford to stay longer than a few days was to go around the bakeries and ask for loaf ends. Back then, ends were thrown out because the Japanese didn't eat them. You basically lived on bread and ramen, with a bit of fruit & veg discarded by supermarkets. Once or twice a week you'd buy a big bowl of meaty soup from a street vendor to make up your protein deficit.

Oh ... I still do it. Weekly while grocery shopping. Not because I spent all my money on weed tho. I sample anything I want from the bulk bins, and I'll get a single pastry from the bakery too. I just don't tear open pkgs anymore. It's beneath my stature & dignity!

 

Yeah ... California grocers were putting "day old" bakery and produce on bakers carts behind the stores rather than tossing it in the dumpster when I lived there. But really, I only got asked to leave maybe twice out of literally 600? times I dined & dashed. I smoked a lot of dank weed in HS. ::

The Tokyo bakers happily handed it over. Saved on dumpage costs, I guess. Speaking of which, when I was a teenager we were still able to get day old bread for free (bakers would bag it up in old flour bags) for our horses/rabbits, etc. I seem to recall they started selling it about 30 years ago .. discounted, but still. A baker near me gives a measly 50% discount for THREE DAY OLD bread.
