Setting aside that inflation is not a hypothetical...and there is some irony coming from the the guy who still has not made a comment about the 40% increase, year to year, of the budget deficit. But yes, I would like to discuss the hypothetical where we did not pass a GOP tax cut resulting in a 40% increase to the budget deficit. There are numerous reports and analysis provided on the revenue that would have existed, but for the GOP tax cut. How much did we miss that predicted revenue thanks to the GOP tax cut?
"Deficits aren't a problem because the rich got their tax cuts" ...the standard GOP position since Reagan.
Yes, it's very simple just like it was in the OP so what confuses me is what point you are trying to make. Will the tax cuts pay for themselves like asked? If there were no tax cuts would the shortfall be less?
Revenues have not fallen, spending continues to increase. http://www.politicalforum.com/index...r-first-time-deficit-hits-738-billion.557301/
Ok, fair enough. If you deal in data, where has the increased spending happened to cause the 40% increase in the OP?
Not an economist here and just spit balling, but maybe if the democrats would help with the border crisis instead if adding millions more illegals into the states for taxpayers to support, it would not only fix the problem of an increase but probably even decrease the deficit as well? The following is from: https://www.fairus.org/issue/public...n-illegal-immigration-united-states-taxpayers "Key Highlights: In 2017, the total cost of illegal immigration for the United States – at the federal, state, and local levels – was approximately $116 billion. FAIR arrived at this number by subtracting the tax revenue paid by illegal aliens – about $19 billion – from the total economic impact of illegal migration, $134.9 billion. In 2013, the estimated total cost of illegal migration was approximately $113 billion. So, in under four years, the cost has risen nearly $3 billion. Evidence shows that the tax payments made by illegal aliens fail to cover the costs of the many services they consume. A large percentage of illegal aliens who work in the underground economy frequently avoid paying any income tax at all. Many illegal aliens actually receive a net cash profit through refundable tax credit programs."
the two 10+ year republican wars are the main culprit course the interest is going up so fast that any cuts are replaced by interest now
republicans are the ones that say that Dems are tax and spend Repubs are borrow and spent "Donald Trump Is Right: Deficits Don’t Matter" https://newrepublic.com/article/133431/donald-trump-right-deficits-dont-matter "“Reagan proved that deficits don’t matter,” Vice President Dick Cheney said when the Bush administration sought a second round of tax cuts in 2003. This fits with a rich tradition of conservative tax-cutters abandoning deficit hawkery when they want to hand money to favored groups. But some economists on the left agree with Cheney that deficits don’t matter—at least not as much as more jobs and prosperity for all—and their views are getting newfound attention because of an offhand comment by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump." "Trump went further when he told CNN on Monday, “This is the United States government… you never have to default because you print the money.”"
I’m with the conservatives and libertarians. We shouldn’t expect future generations to pay for our greed today. Cut the federal budget 20% across the board ... Social Security, military, etc. Balance the damn budget.
Sure, since the federal government spending is about 20% of the economy, that 20% cut across the board would result in a 4% cut of economic activity. Say goodbye to 3% GDP growth, say hello to a -1% contraction. That's starting to look not so easy when you actually take into account numbers, instead of RW talking points.
They’re all Trumpsters now. But then, research on the various tea party groups identified racial attitudes as the one constant that ran through all of them. And race baiting has always been a Trump core value.
Besides, all right wingers are for cuts like this, as long as their government check clears. And the average age of the Fox New viewer and AM talk radio listener is well past retirement age.
