No need to go to Hamburg, you can do that in Californian cities as well. Heared in New York temps went so high, steel melted... you dont need to travel back that much.

Thst said, candy thrown from aircrafts is dangerous. It can seriously hurt people. Smash through windows, damage property. Its like hail.

Also i dont get it why you react so hostile when dont allow your old folks to be their propaganda theatre.

Nein. When You’re 98, you see things 5 times clearer than some 20 year old child.

No. We have a hard time believing that that Germans have turned into such pooosies.
In the US candy is thrown at parades to children and no one faints.

Nein. Chances of someone being hit by candy thrown from the airplane are smaller than that of Hamas firecracker rocket hitting any target.

    1. Throwing candy from aircraft can be dangerous. It can even slam through car windows. Height plus speed make it like a projectile.

    2. Its a propaganda show, which degrades people. If i want candy thrown at ne, i go to a parade. I dont want be hailed with candy while minding my own business somewhere in the city.

Cali. and NY are no match for watching hundreds of thousands of disgusting NAZI's getting bombed and burned to death.

That would be fun to watch.

I can imagine a Brit. gunner saying, "Here. I'll help you out!", as he was pissing out of his planes hatch sprinkling it all over those tremendous fires of what was once the city of Hamburg.

You get that mental breakdown only because we blocked your show? You crack me up. :D

Must suck for you to know that Hamburg was totally rebuild within 10 years and today is one of the worlds top travel destinations. :)

    Dude seriously, get help.

We live in 2019. Our officials made a decission to block a show. Accept that and move on.

The Berlin airlift was a massive effort to save the lives of Berliners when it was surrounded by communists and had about a month of food left in the city.

I have long said that Germany hasn't had a good idea politically in over 100 years, and it wasn't West Germany that "won".

Notice the children have no shoes...

    "Operation Little Vittles"

Gail Halvorsen, one of the many Airlift pilots, decided to use his off-time to fly into Berlin and make movies with his hand-held camera. He arrived at Tempelhof on 17 July 1948 on one of the C-54s and walked over to a crowd of children who had gathered at the end of the runway to watch the aircraft. He introduced himself and they started to ask him questions about the aircraft and their flights. As a goodwill gesture, he handed out his only two sticks of Wrigley's Doublemint Gum. The children quickly divided up the pieces as best they could, even passing around the wrapper for others to smell. He was so impressed by their gratitude and that they didn't fight over them, that he promised the next time he returned he would drop off more. Before he left them, a child asked him how they would know it was him flying over. He replied, "I'll wiggle my wings."[49]

The next day on his approach to Berlin, he rocked the aircraft and dropped some chocolate bars attached to a handkerchief parachute to the children waiting below. Every day after that, the number of children increased and he made several more drops. Soon, there was a stack of mail in Base Ops addressed to "Uncle Wiggly Wings", "The Chocolate Uncle" and "The Chocolate Flier". His commanding officer was upset when the story appeared in the news, but when Tunner heard about it, he approved of the gesture and immediately expanded it into "Operation Little Vittles". Other pilots participated, and when news reached the US, children all over the country sent in their own candy to help out. Soon, major candy manufacturers joined in. In the end, over twenty three tons of candy were dropped on Berlin[49] and the "operation" became a major propaganda success. German children christened the candy-dropping aircraft "raisin bombers".[76]

As your own article says...propaganda sucess.

We live in 2019, i think you should accept, that we dont want to be unpaid actors in a propaganda show.

When you read some comments here, it sounds so bizarre. You cant expect that people from another country play your propaganda objects.

Also your story doesnt work. Halvorsen speaks no German, none of the kids spoke english.

I’m against most of the WWII celebrations. Russia has excessive parades while their real veterans can’t afford to buy meat. Throwing candy from the aircraft is stupid too - garbage will be everywhere and I doubt modern German kids would pick up the candy from the ground. Also - allowing a 98 year old to fly? That’s a true hazard to people on the ground!
Times changed, war ended a very long time ago. Everyone should just let it go!

For not wanting to be used as actor in some twisted propaganda show? I would feel soft if we had allowed this ****.

I dont want an old zombie to fly over us and throw candy out of an airplane.

No german kid would eat candy that laid on the floor, it would just create garbage. Better?

I don’t think it’s propaganda. It’s a bunch of very old people who want to feel great again, forgetting that Germany of 2019 is a totally different Germany that they were helping. These pilots don’t realize that the kids that were picking up that candy weren’t experiencing a very good childhood and probably don’t like being reminded of those times.

I agree, its selfish and only to make themself feel good.

And letting an 98 year old fly over would be a criminal act. I would not even allow this guy to drive a car.

WWII ended nearly 70 years ago. To serve during the war, the whole stretch, you should be at least 97 now.
What past are you afraid we will repeat? Genocides? Happened before and after WWII. Brutal dictatorial oppression? Well, the victor, USSR kind of kept going. China added quite a few million too. Is racism or antisemitism eliminated? No.
So, what’s is it that we are destined to repeat if we forget? I think we (humanity) already repeated the worst things of WWII several times already.
If one were to ignore the death toll, one would agree that WWII wasn’t at all that much of a remarkable war. Technically, it should not even be called WWII because Europe has had several massive wars that involved colonies in the 19th century (7 year war, Napoleonic wars, etc). So, the war was probably like WWIV or even WWV.

Did you read and understand the relevance of "Those who forget their past"? As an American, I'm fine with my countries intervention in the liberation of those innocents being slaughters by the millions for no other reason but culture and beliefs! Germanies history will and should never be forgotten..

Go find some of those children, who grew up in their situation-and ask them what they think.

Much like we have seen in Japan-some of the young are reluctant to accept their past.

    Thats actually dangerous.

Next time the US should let europe burn.

The europeans don't care, why should we?
