So long as the word "trans" remains an integral part of how the group in question goes about identifying itself, such as transgender or transsexual, the informal reference phrase of "trannies" cannot be constituted as being a slur simply because it is not appreciated.
Except it is a slur. That’s how it is used. “Trans” is the non-slur word to use. And on this site, slurs are a Rule 7 violation.
Demonstrate precisely how the word in question amounts to a slur, other than showing that a specific group claims it to be offensive to them.
And in the time leading up to the last presidential elections, many claimed that the name Donald Trump was a slur intended to make minorities feel threatened and unwelcome by suggesting they did not belong in the united states. Simply because one feels insulted, does not mean the supposed insult is actually a slur.
Reacting to accurate descriptives as if they are slurs is IMO an insult to the trans community. Trans is obviously a neutral term.
I am sure you know that it is a mistake to use Rule 7 to silence opposition unless the violation is very clear. Trans is a very useful accurate descriptive.
Plenty of people say “He came out as homosexual” or “She is homosexual”. Homosexual is absolutely a word that’s totally fine to say. Homo isn’t usually used except as a pejorative nowadays. So yeah, it’s becoming a slur as well.
There is nothing more damaging for the "transgender" community than the movement by the Left to allow biological males or females to be designated as anything other than what they really are. Reality will remain fixed. And every effort to deny the objective truth will undermine tolerance for the deniers.
Rule 7 is a mistake? Cool, take it up with the devs and try to get it removed. Until you do, it stands and the use of slurs should be called out. Here’s a simple solution: you could always not all Trans people slurs?
Only to those who subscribe to the mentality of perpetual victimhood, and believe they cannot possibly be anything other than victims for the duration of their natural lives.
IMO, the gay liberation movement was right to embrace many of these contrived slurs to take the sting out of them. The gay community can easily and effectively be defended without denying freedom of speech to those who denounce homosexuality. Direct open confrontation and debate are always the best approach in a free society.
If the supposed "victims" of a slur freely engage in the use of the word they object so strongly to, and refer to one another as such without a second thought, then the word itself is not a slur. Rather they are objecting to who is using the word, not the word itself or the meaning behind it. They are in essence claiming that certain words belong to specific groups and cannot, under any circumstances, be used by anyone else except for them.
By taking ownership of s slur they are inherently changing the meaninging of it. People who use slurs are wanting to use them pejoratively. It’s cool. Use slurs all you want. But I will report you on this forum.
You can always report any violation you spot, but I do not think that will help trans people at all. I do think that the use of "tranny" may now generally be used as a slur. Which is unfortunate. There is nothing inherently negative with that term.
There’s nothing inherently negative in the n-word either. But it was used as a perjorative for long enough that it became one.
I am sympathetic with your position, but I think the term tranny should be tolerated and only denounced when used as a slur. Kind of like Demmy. Being a Demmy does not necessarily make you a bad person.
