"Berkeley became the first city nationwide to ban the use of natural gas in new low-rise residential buildings in a unanimous vote Tuesday by the City Council.

The ordinance, introduced by Councilwoman Kate Harrison, goes into effect Jan. 1, 2020, and phases out the use of natural gas by requiring all new single-family homes, town homes and small apartment buildings to have electric infrastructure. After its passage, Harrison thanked the community and her colleagues “for making Berkeley the first city in California and the United States to prohibit natural gas infrastructure in new buildings.”

OUT, out, clean cheap natural gas lets use more dirty and expensive electrical power...

California already gets half it’s electricity from renewable sources and it’s only going to increase.

California has rolling blackouts. And during emergencies people's options are now reduced.

They are not totally restricting usage of gas just in new construction starting next year..and gas maybe cheap but not from a supplier in the country it can be very expensive since it is a commodity which gets high the colder it gets...

Nah. Just let’s me cook food indefinitely regardless of power. Anyone who lives in S.FL knows what it’s like living without power for days if a Hurricane hits.

So you’re literally saying rolling blackouts don’t exist because we can all read the news you know.

We once went two weeks in the winter when we had three days of rain turn into an ice storm and the temp dropped to -22 in Southern Missouri one year...I just burned a lot of wood off of the 43 acres of woods I live on..

Any acres of woods in FL are protected parks, hehe. And we don’t have fireplaces, for the most part.

I don't think that it should ban natural gas, it is generally a clean burn. I could understand a phasing out, but a complete ban, no.
