He's calling for mandatory buybacks of two specific weapon types. Those have been really handy for people who want to mow down children and adults in church, at stores, in schools, etc. Anyone who thinks that kind of gun is useful for hunting prey other than humans is just plain nutty - and "nutty" is a reason for failing a background check. The other guy you mentioned would allow for owners of those weapons to keep them at gun clubs, target rantes, etc. I don't know what O'Rourke would say to that.
Sure. My bet is they'll have more info as the look into it. We're going to have to do more to bolt down the supply chain. One of the east coast "freeway shooters" (Malvo?) got his weapons from a store not far from here in Seattle. It appears that store was selling guns under the table and writing them off as stolen or otherwise keeping them off the record. That had been noticed and called out to authorities, but there was no sufficient official follow up to stop that. I saw a report from LA that listed the source of guns found at local crime scenes. A significant percent of the guns were purchased at a very few local gun shops. Those shops appeared to be legal, but were the major suppliers of guns used in crime. I don't have some solution idea, but it does appear that there are choke points in the stream of weapons moving from manufacturers to crime scenes.
It's not a matter of being a sheep. It's a matter of wanting a society to live in that is peaceful, trustworthy, & is never armed to the teeth. I've seen videos of Muslim communities in the Middle East & Africa, where everyone walking by is male (no females allowed outside home alone), & carrying an AK-47. That's not attractive to me. It symbolically conflicts with the whole idea of a "free, open, democratic America."
After you do that, let me know if all the hassle, torture, pain, misery, & extended intrusions into & onto your private life, made it worthwhile.
Amen, XploreR. If someone has to carry a lethal weapon to walk around, they absolutely are NOT free. And, that goes for America and anywhere else.
Thats just the warmup a t And when banning ARs does not stop the killing lib gun grabbers will come back for more
The solution to most gun related crime is zero tolerance Gang bangers are picked up everyday illegally carrying and walk away with a slap on the wrist If some gun shops are supplying guns to criminals then go after them and put them away Stop and Frisk in high crime areas would snare a bunch of bad guys but deep blue liberal democrat mayors are loathe to do it
It's quite true that at least some of the ideas that are tried may not work, or may take significant time to work. And, if the issue doesn't get resolved, I'm very sure more ideas will be tried. The central task is to solve the problem.
Sheer nonsense. Was life safer during the times of the Wild West, when every man & many women carried? Is that safety record the reason they call it the "Wild West?"
How does a gun shop know they are selling guns to criminals? Isn't that what background checks are all about?
The problems marginal people who have been driven insane by modern liberal culture There is no fix for that
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/27/us/active-shooter-pittsburgh-synagogue-shooting.html What about our American culture caused this guy to decide to start slaughtering those in this synagogue while shouting anti semitic slurs?
How do you figure? If someone has insurance, does that mean they are not free? If I keep a first aide kit in my car, does that mean I am not free? Carrying a gun doe not mean a person plans on using it. It is similar to a first aide kit. It is better to have one available and not need it, than it is to need it and not have one.
So, answer me a question: Hypothetical: Say I own an AR-15. I use it on my ranch to shoot ground squirrels that tear up my land (and other things), I shoot coyotes that kill my livestock (sheep), I use it to kill other varmints to are a nuisance, I may even use it to kill a black tail deer (in season, of course). I bough my AR-15 legally and use it for legal purposes. So my question: Why should I be disallowed from owning my AR-15?
Not sure what prompted the above gibberish - certainly nothing above relates to anything I said. Glad you finally figured out that law - by definition gives some authority the power to punish. And yes, I don't agree with all laws. But, that doesn't mean I don't respect the law. It means I'll work harder toward improving the law. That's what we do in a democracy like ours. Blubbering some gibberish about what you think does not motivate someone - is not an answer to what you think motivates these mass killers. "The way we improve our laws is not at gunpoint" - Correct - but if people do not know what the founding principles are - or want to apply the rule of law- only for things they agree with (like you do) .. then there is little hope.
Families that did not own an ak-47 when the government collapsed were looted and terrorized. If you think something like that can never happen here, you are mistaken. Maybe it won’t happen in our lifetimes, maybe it will. But nothing lasts forever. Make sure your family is ready when the time comes.
