I can't argue with the holiday thing, because there's no need for 'honouring' holidays period. But there should be no changes made to established traditions when they literally harm NO ONE (and having your feelings hurt is not harm. that's a First World problem). We're well past that kind of brutality now, and can process it without issue. Besides, Columbus was a significant figure. Just as Chairman Mao was. Plus a wealth of other dodgy characters. That's our crazy, horrible, wonderful, shocking history. Stop freaking sanitising it!

 

Jerry Rubin came to the University of West Florida back in the very early 1970's to a "peace rally". We Southern Freaks, we didn't like the work "Hippie", went to it to hear him speak.
