A U.S. Invasion Of Iran Would Be Suicidal

The US does not have enough troops to occupy Iran?!! Nor, no region bases or allies?!!

Nonetheless, Iran would be able to rebuild its nuclear facilities before long, especially given the windfall in economic relief it would undoubtedly receive once the sanctions regime against it unraveled in response to America’s military action.

The only military action that can truly prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, then, is for the United States to invade and occupy the country, potentially turning it over to a U.S.-friendly regime that would uphold Iran’s non-nuclear status. Despite the widespread support in the United States for preventing Iran from building a nuclear weapon, this option is almost never proposed by any serious observer.

The article makes no sense at all. The article assumes that the US would not blockade Iranian ports or mine them at the least. No insurer will allow tankers to enter Iranian waters, so I don't know what he means about holding together the sanctions.

Recall Operation Desert Storm. You had 500K troops placed in Saudi Arabia in case of attack by Saddam alone.

Iraq was and is a fiasco. However, one thing was gained, a video of the trap being sprung on Saddam. This video should give anyone pause who wants to f*** with the US. Now if Iran really does something stupid it is green glass time.

 

What lib wants soldiers coming home dead? This type of post just brings down the whole level of dialogue on this site. This is not a lib/conservatives /left/right event. There are many both on the left and the right that want to see us high tail it out of the Mideast. If they don't get sent there like progressives such as myself believe and the new who are there come home tomorrow there is not much chance of them coming home in body bags is there. A man after my own heart. NO one can even put forth any argument about keeping our forces there, 20 years later and the place is worse off. All we got out of it was thousands of our best dead, 10x that permanently wounded, 6 trill wasted and the MIC even stronger than they were before.
